What are "gay" rights, exactly? I was under the impression that gay people got every right that a straight person does in this country. So I'm to understand that they want extra rights? That's unconstitutional.
No. You're not "to understand," and you "don't understand."
What is the "extra right" being sought by proponents of gay marriage?
If gay marriage is allowed, what prevents a straight person from entering into a gay marriage? Other than the same thing that prevents a gay person from entering into a straight marriage?
Would YOU want your son or daughter to marry a gay person? How is that good for relationships or society?
But I love my toaster!! Can I have a civil union with it?
.........In fact they would be treated better under the tax law. No one asks any sexual preference , aberrant behavior questions when you file for incorporation.
IS GAY MARRIAGE A SOUND FINANCIAL DECISSION..........IS IT A GOOD IDEA, OR A MOVEMENT TO IGNORE THE KINGS CLOTHES. ?
Comparing marriage to a toaster is stupid.. You dont own your spouse, you dont buy your spouse, we dont have slavery in america.
who's the idiot that needs this expained to them?
Lol, seriously? What is hard to understand?
It is the social conservative idiocy that goes something like this:
"If we allow gay marriage, we are on a slippery slope to polygamy, people marrying dogs and children and inanimate objects."
The OP's link succinctly (and graphically, for those used to reading with accompanying pictures) shows in clear, easy language why those arguments are stupid.
not in MY state. and why should i have to move away from family and friends BY MYSELF to another state to get married when i don't even like change that much? and even in those states it's not FULL marriage because of doma which prevents the federal benefits.

First let me say I am and have always supported gay marriage, .That being said , if civil unions gave you exactly the same benefits as marriage would that be good enough for you?

well, what we mean by 'gay marriage' is a civil marriage contract. nothing to do with the religious side, that's up to religions. but civil unions can't give us those things as long as doma is considered constitutional.
I haven't (and won't) clicked on the link. But for me it's less about denying anyone their rights and more about finding a middle ground (marriage vs. civil unions). Homosexuals won't rest until they take down the institution of marriage, as well as accomplish de facto acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle via constitutional law. Being gay is not the issue - the issue is that homosexuals believe that what they engage in is normal, natural, and right, and thus expect the rest of America to embrace this abomination via legal avenues. If homosexuals were in anyway tolerant themselves, there would be less friction. But they're not, so they get high levels of pushback, and rightfully so.
That's the problem that many of us have with the Gay Agenda.

Ok ,lets say DOMA was scrapped and a civil union gave you everything a marriage did, would that be good enough?

well.
1. there is no such thing as the 'homosexual lifestyle'. there are people born with the trait of a homosexual orientation, but that has nothing to do with what lifestyle somoene might have. i'm a 34 year old virgin living in north dakota, who doesn't do drugs and rarely drinks and is college education, attending a masters program in pastoral counseling. in what way do RICKY MARTIN in i share the same lifestyle?
do all people born heterosexual have the same lifestyle?
2. we aren't trying to 'take down' marriage. it's not OUR FAULT that we're gay and obviously we aren't going to have a heterosexual marriage because this would be mean both to us and to the other person who we'd lie to to have the marriage.
3. what we engage in (if anything) of course is natural and in accordance with the orientation that we were born with. it has NOTHING to do with STRAIGHT people having GAY SEX. .. THAT would be unnatural.
you seem to have the very basics of the situation wrong. you are very misinformed.
also CIVIL UNIONS are NOT the 'middle ground' it's what every married couple NOW has. if they got married in a church they got the ADDITION MARRIAGE ceremony but legally it's a civil union. that's what we want and deserve constitutionally.
