To be honest...I hate bill maher...I think he is a rude, manipulative a-hole who was a failure as a stand up comedian...so he turned to the political arena and has made conservatives his punchline. I rarely can stomach listening to his crap.

I think Bachman meant something completely different from what that clip showed...and that is the usual edited SH** that comes from a-holes like Maher.

I am a conservative...but I do not favor cutting off the poor from welfare. What I do favor is people who find themselves in a position where they need to be on welfare...working for that money. I think that instills the idea that you EARN money instead of waiting with your hand out. People NEED to work for what they get. It at least gives a good sense of self, and that you EARNED what you have...and it is YOURS. Handouts only create a sense that you are OWED something for nothing. And I think THAT is what Michelle Bachman meant...in spite of the edited clip that Maher showed so he could illustrate a misguided sense of what CONSERVATIVE means.

If Maher wants to help the poor...how about he turn over about 60% of his fortune and spread it around?? No....that's not what idiots like him preach. They think WE should do that...but not HIM. Same goes for all of the other celebritards like Sarandon...Baldwin....Sheen....Penn...Michael Moore...all mouth and no action. What these dimwits want is for the REST OF US to share the wealth.....or for the government to just keep printing money until the whole system collapses. But you can be sure of one thing...Maher and the rest of the hollywood crowd will have their $$ safely tucked away where it can't be de-valued or LOST. And all the while they will be blabbering their left wing socialist drivel...preaching to the rest of us on how to be a good human being.

People like maher are dangerous in that they have a large audience who believe everything he says...when it just isn't true. If that a-hole took a dirt nap tomorrow, the world would suddenly be a better place.

Maher is such a hateful lib that he is predictable and never funny. He has an arrogant air of superiority, but clearly lacks higher intelligence. That characteristic is typical of liberals, which makes them look ridiculous.

I wonder why Maher never attacks Islam? Could it be that he supports honor killings, stonings of women, executions of gays, and suppression of free speech? Probably.

People who advocated "poor houses" said the same thing.

Telling people that they are only worthy of compassion and care if they work is a kind of utilitarianism that takes away dignity from human life and makes a persons value contingent on their usefulness to other people. A persons sense of worth and the compassion of others shouldn't derive from the amount of money they make or whether or not they can be employed in a market economy.

I would argue the sense of "mine" and "self" are often destructive, not constructive. People are also social creatures and our sense of sharing and connection is perhaps more important than our sense of private ownership. In a deep philosophical sense, the concept of ownership you are advocating is also not absolutely true, because the way the self exists is always relational, without an absolute existence.

There isn't anything to 'GET' about maher other than he is a rude, a-hole.

Imagine if a comedian (self proclaimed in maher's case) made this comment...Michelle Obama's kid...now someone tell me that this is not a product of incest....Can you imagine the firestorm that would have been made?? Yet you *******s thought it was simply hilarious when he made a similar comment about Palin's down syndrome kid!!

If another person had said something like that about the obama's...you *******s would be wanting them arrested...exiled...or executed. You sure as hell wouldn't be saying... 'Well...you just don't 'get' him'

And you wonder why conservatives laugh at you for your all encompassing hypocrisy??

voluntary charity is one thing...in fact, I have given to others MANY times in my life and I feel good about it. But for anyone to say that the GOVERNMENT should use tax dollars to hand out payments to people and get nothing in return is simply ludicrous.

There is nothing wrong with people getting welfare and working for it...If anything takes away 'dignity', it is receiving something for NOTHING. Where is the sense of accomplishment? Where is the sense of making your own way?? How can people feel good about having their neighbors pay their way involuntarily??

Dignity is getting a handout?? What the hell school of common sense did you attend??

My goodness, someone certainly is cranky this morning.
Just so you know, you're baking up the wrong tree when you start the old, tired "*******" thing with me.
Please, go buy yourself a sense of humor and learn to laugh at yourself.
