While most of America was reveling in the dethroning of 2011, President Barack Obama was signing into law one of the most powerful and potentially dangerous Department of Defense bills ever crafted.

I'm not a constitutional scholar as Obama, but it appears as though Supreme Court is not the only institution that makes a mockery of that antiquated document. Bush & Obama effectively have overridden the US Constitution and unlike Supreme Court they didn't hide the "change" in hundreds of pages of legalistic diarrhea. Bush and Obama are more like twins to me, of course Obama is little bit more intelligent, he speaks in convoluted sentences (he seems doesn't quite comprehend himself) but his verbal diarrhea is not funny (at all) and Bush' neologisms were darn funny. Other than that, why bother?

Editorial: Obama signs dangerous defense bill, despite reservations | The Rock River Times

Here is how section 1021 of the House bill reads now:
“Affirmation of Authority of the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons pursuant to the authorization for the use of military force.
“IN GENERAL. — Congress affirms that the authority of the President to use all necessary and appropriate force pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force (Public Law 107–40; 50 U.S.C. 1541 note) includes the authority for the Armed Forces of the United States to detain covered persons (as defined in subsection (b)) pending disposition under the law of war.
“COVERED PERSONS. — A covered person under this section is any person as follows:
“(1) A person who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored those responsible for those attacks.
(2) A person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.
“DISPOSITION UNDER LAW OF WAR. — The disposition of a person under the law of war as described in subsection (a) may include the following:
“(1) Detention under the law of war without trial until the end of the hostilities authorized by the Authorization for Use of Military Force.

“(2) Trial under chapter 47A of title 10, United States Code (as amended by the Military Commissions Act of 2009 (title XVIII of Public Law 111–84)).
“(3) Transfer for trial by an alternative court or competent tribunal having lawful jurisdiction.
“(4) Transfer to the custody or control of the person’s country of origin, any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity.
“CONSTRUCTION. — Nothing in this section is intended to limit or expand the authority of the President or the scope of the Authorization for Use of Military Force.
“AUTHORITIES. — Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.”

*YAWN* Let me guess: it's all the Jews fault.

President Obama is simply doing his duty as commander-in-chief in keeping the American people safe from mass terrorist attacks on US soil, something the Village Idiot from Texas failed to do. Just because some tinfoil hat wearing, bug-eyed Ron Paul loons are starting to screech about the "end of civil liberties", doesn't make it so. Where were these Ron Paul loons in 2003/2004, when their Village Idiot from Texas invaded and occupied Iraq? I didn't hear a peep out of their loony pieholes. It was LIBERALS who were protesting.

Perhaps Ron Paul/George Dumbya Bush loons need to go write more racist/anti-Semitic/right-wing/homophobic newsletters to make them feel better.

Bush was doing his duty with Iraq too by your logic

Obama could personally kidnap your entire family and some of you people would be perfectly alright with it since you're deluded enough to think the messiah can do no evil.

Obama promised to get Bin Laden. He did.

Obama promised to get us out of Iraq. He did. Despite all the howling and protests of the GOP clowns running for president.

Obama promised to draw down forces in Afghanistan. And he is doing that now. Despite all the howling and protests of the GOP clowns running for president.

Thanks to Obama's efforts, we got also got Gaddafi, a bloodthirsty dictator who actually killed Americans.

Obama = a tough JFK Democrat. Dumby Bush = village idiot from Texas.

The choice is clear: Obama/Biden 2012!!

Promised to close down Gitmo. Oops. Promised universal health care. Oops. Also, "we" didn't get Gaddafi, the Libyan rebels did.

Meanwhile we've still got bad unemployment and an economy that isn't growing fast enough. Man, I'm sure glad he did all that other stuff though, I'm sure that's really putting bread on the table for struggling folks!

And on top of that he is spending on defense like a drunk cowboy in Juarez.

The President has sworn he won't use that extra power. But what about the next President?

The entire Republican nominee field would follow the same policies as Bush, and use that extra executive power.

If he hadn't turned out to be such a liar I might believe him for a half a second, but regardless he has went against the constitution as have all the legislators that voted for the NDAA... IMHO they have commited treason...that's the way I see it.
