the SEAL teams were actually created during the kennedy administration, and were actually a conglomeration of UDT, scouts and raiders, and one other world war two era team, i forget which.
you want to try again? BUD/S was the training class for ALL navy special forces. some graduates were assigned to the SEAL teams and others, like ventura, were assigned to the UDT teams.
" and one other world war two era team,". The "team" would be the Navy Seabees which is still in existence today.
"The first Seabees were created of necessity, in World War II, to help in the Pacific island-hopping campaign. As a result they cut their teeth in combat working in and around seawater, dealing with beach obstacles and other hydrographic hazards -- not to mention incoming Japanese fire. The Navy soon realized the need for an even more specialized group, which became the Underwater Demolition Teams, the UDTs. Early in Vietnam, JFK ordered a new Special Forces group be created. This offshoot of the UDTs was the U.S. Navy SEALs. The Seabees are thus an ancestor of the Special Warfare community of today. It’s a “blood” relationship in every sense of the word. "
No, I haven't. I also don't like hanging around servicemen and servicewomen, especially when they're drinking. In Hawaii, it's almost always a bad ending for them.
I would suggest staying away from any Irish folks, they also hold wakes in bars.
No offense to any Irish here, we Germans in the Midwest have the same custom.
I have to say, I am quite astounded by the number of people who believe that physical violence is a fair response to stupid words.
Aren't you all just fine examples of upstanding adults.
And we wonder why teenagers think bringing a gun to school is a proper response to some perceived slight.
Would you disrespect one of your veterans for punching a blowhard that was disrespecting the sacrifice of one of their fallen comrades in the face?
There is a time and a place for politics. A wake in a bar with family members of the fallen present is neither the time nor the place. Ventura got off lucky. He more than earned a first class stomping. The SEAL that punched him is deserving of compliments for his restraint as well as his actions.
Really?
My direct question to you is, when does it become acceptable, possibly even commendable, to physically assault someone because you don't like what they are saying?
Sniping uneducated, untrained, and illiterate insurgents isn't really brave nor is it anything to be proud about.
And you know this how?
I guess you don't follow the news. You know where they show thugs with rocket launchers and AK-47's. Let's not forget the bombs they plant in the streets and the bombs strapped to themselves.
My direct question to you is, when does it become acceptable, possibly even commendable, to physically assault someone because you don't like what they are saying?
It becomes acceptable when the person you're assaulting refuses to accept multiple warnings that their ill timed comments are offensive to those mourning the loss of a loved one.
Ventura, despite a good deal of evidence showing he has never personally seen combat, publicizes himself as a member of the unconventional warfare community. He chose to ignore the rules and customs of that community and run his mouth with no regard to how his words effected grieving family members. He got off lucky for having run his mouth.
Here's a question for you; How would you feel if an outsider that claimed to be a part of your family showed up at a wake honoring one of your loved ones and proceeded to start insulting the recently departed?
Actions and words have consequences. Based on Ventura's claims he should have possessed few illusions about the events that would likely follow his poorly thought out comments. Disputing the validity of a war is one thing. Dishonoring a SEAL who died in the war is another thing entirely.
There is a time and a place for everything. Ventura's timing sucked and as as result of that he received a much needed punch in the face.
