You may be more than carrying you weight but the top 400 taxpayers are NOT. Many of them pay the cap gain rate or less. Their effective rate can be far lower than yours and mine.

It never ceases to amaze me that people such as yourself really believe that the success or failure of this 300 million person country is dependent upon 400 people...What if these 400 people decided to move to Tahiti? We'd descend into anarchy?

Not to mention most of the incredable 400 potential country savers are already paying in excess of a 1/4 of a million each.

Do they need help packing? They can leave any time.

Why should ANYONE in the uber wealthy leisure class pay a smaller percentage of their income than anyone else. They benefit the most and should pay the most.

So now you're holding out one hand, demanding more money from these "400 people" in order to subsidize your lifestyle and give you free stuff, as your continued prosperity is dependent upon them accommodating you...

...And with the other hand, you're giving them the finger and telling them to leave.

Yeah, you're a real rational individual who has clearly thought out your position and obviously have even .1% of an inkling of knowledge of which you speak.

</sarcasm>

Punishing those who are successful as a way to solve our debt problems?

It is beyond me how anybody could even begin to find that logical.

Before anybody has a tax increase, I'd like to see government stop wasting billions and billions of dollars at every turn on handouts that do nothing but create more "needy" people. Government waste and irresponsibility are the root of all of our debt issues. The "rich" are already subsidizing the bottom half of all wage earners who do not pay taxes now.

And make corporations pay taxes. Raise capital gains to the same rate as income tax.

Interesting - it would of course be quite possible for the richest 400, or 4000, or 1% or even 10% of Americans to move to Tahiti, or Somalia, or Easter Island. It may well be possible for many of them to continue making money from those locations, although admittedly none of them are noted for their infrastructure or connectedness. What's fairly certain is that most of America's richest people would have been a good deal less rich, and may not even have been rich at all, if they had been born in one of those places, and that, in a nutshell, is why the people, and the rich especially, must pay taxes - and probably to an increasing extent.

How exactly do you make that happen? When one party is in power they tend to spend on what they find important. Didn't the republicans do this during Bush's two terms?
