Pew has a poll on this somewhere around 2006, I'm not going to look it up. The poll showed the media is complete opposite of the general public where the majority identified themselves as liberals and the conservatives are the minority.
About a third of national journalists (34%) and somewhat fewer local journalists (23%) describe themselves as liberals; that compares with 19% of the public in a May survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. Moreover, there is a relatively small number of conservatives at national and local news organizations. Just 7% of national news people and 12% of local journalists describe themselves as conservatives, compared with a third of all Americans.
Of course, the number of people in the US describing themselves as conservative has risen over the last 5-6 years.
And remember, these journalists might think they are moderate, but in reality, they lean to the Left. If you asked Stepanopolous or Gregory or Williams or Couric where they fell ideology, they would say they are moderates, which is a laugher.
Lol... Am I the only one who spotted the switcharoo?
"Conservative, Moderate... Liberal?" One of these things is not like the others...
The real third option should have been ... PROGRESSIVE! And lo and behold... http://firebrandmag.com/?p=2576... 67% of the country self-identifies with Progressive...

"Very few" is a relative term. 20% of the population is not very few.....and just way too many.
Compared with conservatives and moderates, that would be deemed a fringe minority nonetheless.
So then how is there the Liberal bias in mainstream media if there are so few? Are you saying that Conservatives are not capable of holding their own in the media if the Liberals have such a stronghold? And What about Fox? If they have the highest viewership, then how is that a Liberal bias?

In bad times, people become more conservative because they are more fearful, and less willing to embrace change. I think that explains why we see 40% calling themselves conservative now. What I take issue with is this idea that there is some unspoken war going on where one ideology has to win against the others. That will never happen and it is idiotic to think that majority rules in this scenario. Liberals, moderates, and conservatives will always exist. The only mix of those three that bodes well for the country is one where moderates make up the majority. It would suggest that the country is content, able to compromise, and not nearly as divided as it is now.
But again we have another thread that pits people against each other. Yeah conservatives, they outnumber liberals, that must mean that I'm right and you're wrong. My group outnumbers your group so your inferior ideology will fail. I don't think that way, but my God how many people actually do! And I notice that the ones who really study and enjoy this kind of warfare are the conservatives! What is it about them that causes them to constantly see things as a struggle between two polarities when it's pretty obvious it does nothing but divide and destroy?
"Progressive" is a cover word for Marxist that far leftists use. If you believe that poll, that means that two thirds of Americans are Communists? Hardly think so.

If you told the respondents liberal and progressive are one in the same, the disapproval would be the same.
Liberals made up the label "progressive" because the word liberal was/is in such high disfavor.
They really can't fool people though. Liberals are all about spending money we don't have and then enacting massive taxes to pay for all that spending.
And this president has damaged the brand of liberal more than any other.

Really? Then why do more Americans call themselves liberal now than during the Bush or Clinton years? The poll clearly indicates that liberalism is more popular today than it's been in the last 20 years.
So what exactly does this mean. And where are all these conservatives.
