Nevermind Mexico.....you should keep your head down and not be ostentatious about wealth in ANY foreign country.

No one should have to tell a person with common sense that.

This information is total bull.. Yes, there are areas in Mexico to avoid.. But even then I was just in a border city and had a wonderful and safe time. I was just in mexico city and Puebla and it was phenomenal.

Too bad, because you're missing out on one of the most beautiful countries in the world and mexico city is probably the most vibrant city in north America.

I had a lot of fun last year for 5 days in Tulum, which is the Riviera Maya. As I understand, the Yucatan has been spared a lot of the border and gang violence.

Was a 20 year old girl alone in Mexico City with no problem - but I speak Spanish and know how to blend in. I'm looking forward to being in the financial position to do it again sometime soon.

As others have said, very few Americans who are not involved in unsavory activities are involved in violence. However, if you show up in Mexico wearing your finest jewelry and speaking loudly in English, in addition to being in poor taste you are also putting yourself at risk. Spend time in Mexico City (tourist areas are perfectly safe), Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Guadalajara and stay away from the border and Gringolandia (Cancun, Puerto Vallarta) and you'll be fine.

Default VACATION DESTINATION MEXICO BLOODBATH - 120 Americans murdered in Mexico last year

Being near the border myself, I can say that anyone considering travel to Mexico should definitely change plans. It's totally out of control and there are no signs of progress towards a return to normalcy.

It's simply NOT worth the risk.

I'm more concerned about Americans killed in America by criminal aliens from Mexico.

Texas colleges once again warned about going to Mexico for Spring Break and suggested college students stay away from Mexico and go somewhere else.

missing the point as various sources list about 45,600 violent deaths in MX since 2006. That translates to 45,600 humans. Real people.

The 120 dead Americans is a diversion. Who in their right mind wants to hang out in a country, where for instance in 2010, more than 15,000 people were murdered/beheaded/burned whatever.

Amazing that these war like figures go unnoticed by the mainstream media. There are probably a whole lot more than 120 Americans killed by illegal immigrants in the USA.
