More of the GOP's War on the Poor. They are hell bent on destroying what's left of the middle-class so they can turn the US into another China, nation of sweatshops. Obama and the democrats have done little if anything to stop them.

House Transportation Bill 'Technical Correction' Would Strip Workers Of Pay Protections
Feb. 12, 2012

WASHINGTON -- A little-noted provision in the House Republicans' controversial energy and transportation bill would strip several thousand workers within the rail-industry of their federal minimum-wage and overtime protections, potentially making low-wage jobs pay even less.

....Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, who was a Republican congressman before taking the helm at the department, last week declared it "the worst transportation bill I've ever seen during 35 years of public service," saying it "hollows out" the department's top priority of safety and "guts" the administration's transportation efforts of the last three years.

Um..this is about crew drivers who are contractors and not part of the rail employees.
You do realize that yes ?

From your link:
"..the bill would merely tweak a few words in existing law.."

Gee that's the same thing that happened with NDAA..just tweak a few words and voila, Americans can now be detained indefinitely.

These people in Congress are smart..smart like foxes that is.
What the article doesn't say though is WHO tweaked those words in the House. The MSM needs to start putting names out here.

Everything the GOP (read Wall Street, Koch Bros, Murdoch, Norquist, Rove, etc.) does is part of the right wing plan to eliminate unneeded workers: first cut their jobs, then cut their benefits, and then wait for them to die.

And when the American middle class, working poor, and poor have been reduced to manageable levels (they need to get rid of about 60 million people in the United States) then things will get "better" for the survivors, all of whom will by then be thoroughly submissive.
Daily Kos: The Secret Republican Agenda...

Sort of a reptilian plan at work. No one is surprised.
Republican comes in the dictionary just after reptile and just above repugnant. Coincidence?

You do realize that employees of contractors who receive federal funds are currently protected by minimum wage and overtime laws, yes?

You're right. We want to eliminate the poor.

That's why we want to end "minimum wage" laws that kill jobs for them, and other programs that keep them dependent.

That's why we want to lower taxes so that businesses can expand and add more jobs. This way the poor will have a chance to raise themselves up.

What better thing could we do for them, but to make it easier for them to find work, and give them the incentive to make a better life for themselves?

What a concept!

Yes, and they are not removing the min wage law here.
If the drivers don't like the conditions they can quit.
Believe it or not drivers ARE needed today in other companies.

Then see how quick these contractors PUT BACK the overtime mandated since 1938 (I think).
But if they just complain and stay with their jobs then chalk one up to big business getting it's way with big government.

What a concept!

Your idea of getting rid of poverty is to pay workers $2 an hour, with no overtime, no benefits?
Like they do in China? You should do stand-up comedy.
