I did a little calculating last night and I compared my income from when gas was .65 in 1973 to gas prices today of near $4.00 a gallon.
In 73 I was working full time in the trades and I was paying 13% of my weekly income for 20 gallons of gas.( I didn't like it then either)
Today I am retired and collecting SS and today I am paying 11% of my weekly income for 20 gal of gas.( I still don't like it)
When gas goes to $5.00 a gallon I will be paying 13% of my weekly income for gas the same as I was in 1973.
Anybody else make any comparisons?
Back in 1965, just out of high school and working in construction, I was making $8,000 a year, and paying 17 cents a gallon for gasoline. To maintain that ratio, income for construction work today should be between $150,000 and $200,000 a year. Care to check with IRS and see just how many "SINGLE INCOMES" are making that?
And to keep up with the way insurance premiums have gone up over the years, the average income should be around $241,000 a year. Bet no one is making that either. Then, wonder why the economy tanked?
I agree. And in addition, considering all of the positive things that are happening in the economy, I wouldn't worry about high gas prices too much. In fact, gas prices always go up when the economy is improving, so from that angle, higher gas prices are a good thing.
Yeah, your "facts," but not facts for those who live in the real world.
That's correct, yours don't. You keep getting proven wrong over and over, but keep deflecting with programmed, false right wing talking points. It's quite enjoyable

Clinton gave us one of the biggest tax hikes ever. And tax cuts do not cause "economic collapse." And overspending causes debt, not tax cuts. Try to get at least one thing right today!
Back at cha' it's like reading right out of the GOP answer's playbook
Don't really wanta call BS on some that are throwing gas prices like 17 a gallon in 1965. They might have seen a price like that, doubt it but who know. Using this site they say 31 cents is more like it. 1960s Flashback-Economy / Prices****
Anyone else amused that the wingnut see a lie as their only path to the WH?
