It's judgemental people in general who are leading the charge.

It's deep-down insecurity. If you're comfortable and confident enough of your own sexuality, homosexuality or even being labeled "gay" out of banter should be water off a duck's back. I think that men seem to get far more hung up on or disgusted by homosexuals and transsexuals than women. Often these men are hypocrites because they would openly enjoy seeing two attractive lesbians go at it.

I do think that it's got ridiculous now. Two men can't even go to lunch together without the stares & comments and I saw a thread on here once that implied that even men living together as roommates must be gay.

I really don't care what consenting adults do behind closed doors as it has no impact on my life. I suspect that insecure people feel better about themselves when they are not associated with one of the stigma groups such as being gay or having a mental illness. As for me, I am an equal opportunity friend and anyone with a good heart is welcome to be my friend.

It's not "completely accepted" by everyone. Not by a long shot. I don't care if you are gay, but the thought of kissing and having intimacies with another female thoroughly grosses me out. Most men that I know and work with, (those that I have heard discuss this sort of thing) feel pretty much the same, about other men, but they are usually much more emphatic about it, since it would appear to many, to diminish their manhood....gay men being usually seen as flaming and feminine. And yes, of course that is a stereotypical description, but it is one held by many, if not most. You may not like it, but there it is. I really don't see why this would be a puzzlement to you.

Ah yes, TV comedy gay men, or was it YouTube?
I was gonna say. Not all gay men are flaming and effeminite-those are the ones you notice. I know several gay guys who love sports, cars, and don't care at all about clothes or whatever. They're just guys who happen to be into dudes.

This is something you can blame women for. Men don't want to be seen as liking men because women get turned off at any sign of femininity in men and most would never date a bi guy. Female immaturity does deserve the blame but you never hear about it. Cultural reasons like religion or peer group can also play a role but even bi guys who are liberal and live in a liberal area usually won't come out.

It's sad that some men would avoid doing that because of fear of being seen as gay.
