For the poster who said same-sex marriage won't be enacted because religions are against it, the religions can be against it until the cows come home. Civil marriage, the state license and the legal implications is the only subject under discussion with same-sex marriage. Of course religions can refuse to participate.
If anyone is married in a religious ceremony but the couple has not signed a state license, they aren't married in the eyes of the law. I don't think the state should be involved in my commitment (if I were to make one) but that is the definition of marriage, not necessarily involving any religions.
Next step: collecting roughly 400,000 signatures to get it on the ballot. The odds of that are very good -- one of the effort's main backers is Ian James, CEO of Professional Petition Management, which specializes in signature-gathering operations.
After that: the ballot. My guess? It loses. But it should be close. For some perspective, in 2004 a referendum passed with 62% to codify the current ban in the Constitution, keeping in mind that over the long-term, opposition to same-sex marriage has eroded by 1-2% annually, with some evidence that the pace has increased somewhat in recent years. That suggests that this measure is not doomed, just that (in my opinion) it is less likely to pass than not pass.

Let's see who the author of that article is shall we?
Dr Trayce Hansen
Quote:
"Dr. Hansen admitted on cross-examination that parenting evaluations represented a new area for her and that she never actually had prepared one. Dr. Hansen never had been qualified as an expert witness by any court. Dr. Hansen never had been retained by any party as an expert witness. Dr. Hansen’s psychology practice involved geriatric patients. Dr. Hansen conceded that she currently did not work with children and had fewer than four years of professional experience after earning her Ph.D. She had worked as a research assistant and had published one article in the journal Personality Assessment in a forensic-type situation."
Quote:
In June of last year, Dr. Hansen issued a press release breathlessly declaring, “Children raised by openly homosexual parents are more likely to engage in homosexual behavior themselves.†This was a follow up to her †5 Reasons Why Same-Sex Marriage Will Harm Children.â€
What Hansen forgets to reveal in her arguments is that as a research assistant working with geriatric patients, she has no more qualification to make such claims than do I. But, like many anti-gay activists, she’s not above using her title deceptively to achieve her dishonest goals.
The court was not impressed.
The court noted that, contrary to Dr. Hansen’s testimony, the APA concludes that no evidence suggests that same-sex couples are unfit to be parents, or that psychosocial development among children of same-sex couples would be compromised in any respect
LOL!
You really must be desperate to find anything, anything at all to support your uniformed prejudiced opinions.
A research assistant with geriatric patients? No experience with children or parents?
Her first reference is to the American College of Pediatricians. This is a small group of about 60 or so far right-wing religious nut jobs whose only purpose is to publish anti-gay propaganda based on misrepresentation and junk science like that of de-registered psychologist and anti-gay holy roller Paul Cameron. One of it's founder is the discredited George 'rentboy' Rekers.
The REAL American Academy of Pediatricians has 60,000 clinical members and states the opposite of what this non-expert claims.
They, as well as every other professional health association base their views on evidence, not misrepresentation and propaganda.
You think a research assistant who works with geriatic clients and has no experience with children or parents or gay people, is an 'expert' on this topic?
The article is just anti-gay propaganda using misrepresentation and outright lies. You'll note it is not published in any reputable peer-reviewed professional Journal. But then again, you wouldn't notice that would you?
From your link: . In fact, the margins of error are so wide it remains entirely possible that genetic factors play no role in the development of homosexuality.
Twins are not always the same exact people, and they do not live the exact same lives. They differ in their own ways.
The author of the article proves she has no clue about homosexuality or the research on homosexuality and just parrots the same old propaganda and misrepresentation by fringe religious-based groups.
This is not surprising as it seems to be a pattern with a lot of anti-gay religious conservatives.
Here's a link to an article by Dr Warren Throckmorton, who is a Christian and a well known and respected psychologist who actually works with gay people. He explains why evangelicals don't seem to know much about the research on homosexuality. The Evangelical Blackout of Research on Sexual Orientation
He also explains how a lot of these evangelicals get there 'information' from religious-based propaganda groups like NARTH:
