It's a great language. I taught myself so I could speak it better than the vast majority of Italian Americans around my way.
First off...*sigh* Italian Americans, at least several generation in, tend to not speak Italian usually: they speak Jerseyese. "hey, watta ya' lookin at, ya' punk?" Joking, I know, stereotypes.

Yes as a Ghanaian my concept of black (originating with blacks) is that black actually means black. Your concept of black (originating with whites for the purpose of enlarging the slave pool to include the offspring of white men) doesn't really mean black. And yes this is the U.S., a country where these concepts are slowly but surely changing thanks to a growing multiracial population and proud fully black people like me.
You are right. People in other countries and from other places see things differently. That's probably why the people who are always okay with me being black and Italian and saying as such are Italians from Italy.
And yes, America is changing, and plenty of both blacks and whites have an issue with that. Already mixed people are finding that we have so much in common with each other and are kind of doing our own thing. Plus, there are MORE AND MORE OF US BORN EVERY YEAR.
As us mixed race people come together more and more and identify with our heritage as well as *gasp!* each other, so many people are going to have to come to terms with this new class of people, and aren't going to like it...and A LOT of them are going to be black.
It's kind of like a kid getting kicked off the team and being told to "start his own team," and then he does and they're pretty good and the team that kicks him out gets jealous. Blacks don't want us, whites don't want us, and we end up with each other and they ALL GET ANGRY
But, the racist whites and blacks will have to deal with it. A proud mixed man said this in a movie...and I think it ironically sums up perfectly what mixed race people will end up saying to "the pure" who don't like them.

I really don't get why Desertdetroiter is debating with you about not wanting to be called black only. His wife is white and his child is biracial. I don't understand that poster.

Whites are kind of like "meh, whatev" or "I here you." Blacks are, half the time, "I hear you, I understand that you have two peoples and at the end of the day, you don't really belong to either and blacks can be absolute douche bags at times."

I see a lot of Italian-Black intermarriage in Nj,and a lot of mixed race people of Italian- black heritage.
I see more Black female/Italian man couples more than the opposite though.
Italians in Nj don't seem to have mixed much with other Europeans. Its either Puerto Rican or black.

Yes you are right. I spent my high school years in the Bronx where there are huge multi-racial populations like Dominicans so many New Yorkers have already come to terms with this class of people but I suppose there are some who haven't. Much of the rest of America will need to realize census categories have already taken note of the existence of multi-racial America and at some point they'll have to stop pretending that black comes in all colors.
And if I were to speak proper English in the wrong neighborhood and dress properly and get an education, blacks would AND DO paint me as some kind of traitor.
So, blacks should have all the Tiger Woodses, Obamas and Alicia Keyes and mixed people get...nothing? So, you're saying we should NOT ONLY not have political power but that she shouldn't be allowed to think we exist? So, who's the racist here, you or the other posters?
BTW, what's wrong with being conservative? I am a centrist, and have views that are liberal and others that are conservative and I vote for both parties, so what? Blacks can't be conservative? Is black now a political identity too?
So, someone who is half black and half white has no stake in his or her own family and heritage and that side should "stay out"? I guess Korans should have no say in my friend's matters too, because she is black and Korean...
Indeed, you are right about that: in the end, I think the only thing us mixed folks have are ourselves and, of course, OTHER MIXED FOLKS. That's why I usually associate with whites and mixed people nowadays, and one of the reasons I love the west coast: there are a lot of us here.
Oh...and speaking of blacks: what if a white person had said this about half black, half white girls? It would be an uproar, and rightfully so. But a black guy says it? Not a peep...go ahead, say it isn't racist and look like a fool.
Your lost all credibility when you said blacks won't respect you when you speak proper English. Hang with your racist buddies who see you as son type of trophy black and move on. Do you, I don't think anyone cares.
