Well Obama thinks there are 57 states, so this to him would be the 58th.
Should never happen. It was to be a non-partisan area as the Capital with land donated between two states.

DC could retrocede all residential areas back to Maryland, then leave DC as the National Mall and the surrounding government offices.

Thanks I'm well aware that Arlington and Alexandria were a part of the district at one time seeing as how I've lived in both. People do anything to jump at the chance to prove others wrong. I meant that I doubt Arlington now would want to be a part of DC.

I don't think you know much about D.C.

It has the WORST schools in the country.

It hasn't been called "The murder Capitol" for nothing.

It has NOTHING to offer MD and plenty of problems MD would NOT be willing to take on. Hell, they can't even take care of the problems it has now.

Personally, I think we have enough states with horrible schools and corrupt politicians.

But if it would be cheaper for America to let D.C. folks run their own lives as state citizens then I'm all for it.
NO.

For one thing there is not enough industry in the private sector to support itself as a state.

Most of the people that live there either work for the Fed gov't or the D.C. govt or collect gov't assistance.

Without millions from the fed gov't D.C. would never survive.
