To me it has nothing to do with saving money or how much was spent. I am much more concerned about the children that will be denied essential services because of their parents irresponsible behavior.

If their parents are on drugs they are already being denied essential services. When they get that check they aren't going to buy Jr. his next meal, they are going to buy more drugs.
People paying into the system should get drug tested. If they fail they shouldn't have to pay in.
Currently someone who has paid into the system, takes a non government drug, and fails the test, can't get their money back.
How about a vote? If 60 percent of the voters feel failing the test means no money then the person who failed only gets 40 percent of the "normal" amount since that 40 percent want to help anyway.
People need to wake up and realize big government running the lives of others when no ones rights are being violated doesn't work.

If that's your argument then I would suggest just eliminating welfare altogether, I'm paying into it and the chances of me ever collecting a single red cent is about 0%.
Note we're not talking about SS or unemployment, it's my opinion no one should ever be tested to receive those funds.
I dong think the applicants were outraged, but the people who had to pay the bills.
That's just it. I'm tired of these big government right wing religious radicals calling for all of these programs that are WORTHLESS and just cost the taxpayers more, at the same time that they're yammering about cutting the deficit and then do the exact opposite. They make me sick, and they need to get the h*ll out of the republican party. They're anti-conservative.
... that are WORTHLESS and just cost the taxpayers more,
According to the table I posted that includes the 1500 that refused the test they saved about 1.7 million dollars in 2 months. That's not chump change, $30 saved for every $1 they spent on drug tests.
As I pointed out before there is also an unknown factor, how many of these people never even bothered applying at all?

Then why not use some of this money you are claiming Florida is saving to create drug education/prevention etc.?
.....again you're only including the hundred+ that failed the test. What about the 1500 hundred that refused to take the test? You can't fail a test you refuse to take.
Their testing would have cost the taxpayer an additional $52 000, so it's a good thing they declined. They were probably libertarians who refuse to be pushed around by the big brother.
