TALLAHASSEE -- Required drug tests for people seeking welfare benefits ended up costing taxpayers more than it saved and failed to curb the number of prospective applicants, data used against the state in an ongoing legal battle shows.
The findings — that only 108 of the 4,086 people who took a drug test failed — are additional ammunition for the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, which sued the state and won a temporary ban on the drug-testing program in October, said ACLU spokesman Derek Newton

I had a hunch it would work out that way. In my own personal opinion, the law was really passed to punish people for needing welfare assistance.

Pretty much. What happened here was the tea party/GOP goons playing off of stereotypes that everyone that needs government assistance are a bunch of good for nothing crackheads and drug addicts. We can see quite clearly that's not the case, and it's cost the taxpayer quite a bit from the tea party/right wing goons forcing their big government bully tactics on people.
Chalk this one up as another epic failure from the tea party/GOP
I woud bet if they made the governamtn liable for the drug usage effects lie meployers perhaps that wod chnage.Employers do it because its needed not just cost verus basis. I don;t want to support people s drug habits and its results on society.
People don't really care about money or costs, they just want to make sure someone isn't getting away with something they don't like.
Trust me, we care. We do NOT want to pay for unnecessary tests, or unnecessary anything. Wasteful spending is wasteful spending. It is just another way to collect more tax, and funnel it to the clinics doing the testing.
The ONLY REASON why Florida created this law was because we thought it would save money for the tax payer, but obviously it is only costing more.
Perhaps this will help encourage conservatives to acknowledge how bad things are in this country and how the majority of those receiving government assistance really need it and are not just lazy druggies.

It's funny thing you can do with numbers when you fail to mention the rest of them like the fact 1500 people refused the test.
