Most of us probably don't realize that No Child Left Behind has actually resulted in the shifting of our kids education from public employees to for-profit corporations. And, it's deeper than even I thought.
For some reason, whenever the GOP comes up with a new "good idea," it always results in putting public money into some corporations pocket. Why is that?

Lol, let's protect mediocre education at all costs, as long as the unions are not disturbed, all is well.
I like what they are doing here in PA. At first this will be piloted in the worst and poorest districts in the state. The student can apply to any public or private school and when accepted they take their state funding with them.
The public schools that are performing badly will go bye bye, public and private schools that perform well will be rewarded with more students and additional funding

That is a great program. That is the way things should work.

That is an interesting idea and a step toward change. I will be interested in how it pans out.
They haven't done it yet but with both the legislature and governors mansion under Republican control it should get done. The greatest thing about it is taking the Democrats biggest criticisms away. Since it will only apply to the worst schools at first which are predominantly the poorest districts they no longer have the argument about it being a gift to the rich. Since the student can choose public schools the argument about unfairly shifting those funds just to private institutions is no longer valid. The only argument they have left is the one about religious schools.
The most important thing is you are empowering the parents to decide was is best for their child, the schools will have accountability to the people they are serving.

What`s to be done with the parent/parents who are performing badly? That`s where the problems lie.
You are right. There are some parents that simply don't care. I don't think they will even bother to apply to get their child into a different school. Sounds like the states goal is to change what they can.

I don't think parents in he US are any better or worse than parents in other countries. Yet we spend among the most in the world on education, but get mediocre results. The problem does not lie with parents.

Will they provide busing for the kids or do the parents have to drive them ?
That seems to be a big barrier...getting the kids to the school.
