Never even heard of the place, sounds like an ancient Aztec city.

I tend to agree. They hire employees that have no idea how the products they sell actually are used. Lots of young kids that have never even owned a home....yet are selling "home improvement" products. They pay way to much for the quality of employee they get. Otherwise, they aren't bad for a lot of things. Good selections, not terrible prices and they actually care enough about their customers to be open in the evening and weekends...unlike many of the smaller local stores. Much better than our local ACE. My biggest complaint is their hardware department...individually wrapped and priced fasteners=pita. We have a couple local stores that still sell hardware by the pound, much handier! Big R is the best store in our area for a lot of things.

That's fine if that's what you want. Noone has ever tried to force someone to shop there. It's too bad some of their competition is so afraid of actual competition...you know, someone that actually offers products at good prices and enough service to actually be open when people want to shop there. Sounds like they protected their turf and ability to overcharge and offer poor service at the expense of the residents of that city again.

LOL...yea, by California standards it's a pretty strange name. But when you come out of the San Joaquin Valley up the 58, there it is in all it's majesty. It's incredibly beautiful. When it snows up there, it looks like a California version of Austria. To boot, it's really not all that expensive considering its Alpine-like setting and location. It's fairly affordable if you have a decent job. Strange thing is, i live more than a thousand feet higher than Tehachapi, and we don't get any snow most years. I'd like a little taste just for one day.

I wouldn't say that pay way too much for the employee they get, but i do agree that most of the employees are clueless. Plus, in the interest of full disclosure, i just hate big box stores anyway. Just too big. I like my shopping experience to be more personal.

Again, our local Ace is wonderful. From the stories i get on here, i guess ours is special because everyone in town loves the place. It's small, and you'll have to order things moreso than you do at our local Lowes, Southerlands, or Home Depot, but i like the friendly one on one service and the fact that a specialist will deal with you no matter what you want whether it be a bottle of weed killer or you're building an addition. They really know their stuff.
