Don't click this link if you don't want to see breastfeeding in action. There is boob. Not a lot of boob but enough boob to maybe get you in trouble at work. It's a TIME magazine cover showing a pretty hot mom breastfeeding her 3 year old. It's causing some controversy.
I think we're inching towards what other countries already have. Nudity and - gasp- even porn, on regular TV and in regular media. I've sat on the train in Japan and watched other young, adult men reading comics that would make most Americans gag. Nudity on Tv was common back in the 90's when I was there. Heck, there was a "porn review" show on TV at late night. Seriously, they reviewed porno films, did interviews with the actors/actresses, did funny skits with naked butts just everywhere. I saw people eating sushi off another person.... on TV. Regular TV. I think they allow topless on regular TV in some other countries as well. UK comes to mind for some reason, and Australia.
It's a process, but I think we're working towards being less prudish.
I wonder how that is going to change us. And it WILL change us.
TV....you don't think it can change us? Maybe it just reflects us. Maybe that's it.
Nudity doesn't bother me. I'd rather see nudity than excessive violence. The context of the nudity is what counts. Boobs aren't a problem in most situations. Strange that it's legal for an overweight man with big man-boobs to go topless on TV or out in public but not a woman.
Also, the FCC seems to be selective about it's nudity enforcement. Remember Schindler's List? It was allowed to be broadcast unedited complete with nudity and violence. PBS documentaries involving topless or nude tribes were also shown unedited. Americans would be shocked to see some of the things shown on TV or movies in Europe, especially in France. Some French movies are showing couples actually having intercourse instead of faking it under the covers. This isn't the porn film most think of where legs are positioned for maximum view of the action. This is more realistic in it's filming since the two actors would actually be having sex like a married or dating couple. It isn't uncommon for a nude model to be shown for a soap or shampoo commercial. Just the postcards would have some fainting with exposed penis, vagina, and breast.

Sounds like you've never tripped over some of the stuff on Google images or realized most cable providers for a price can furnish your channel line up with some very risque channels.

Oh, I'm a connoisseur of porn. I'm just saying, it's heading for regular media vs. being the fringe. Ameriica is changing in some big ways lately. We have a President who is pro-gay, for example. And actually doing stuff, like making "Don't ask, don't tell" a memory. America's media gets a little more explicit every day.... I'm curious how far we'll go. In Australian TV, pretty much anyting goes. Think dirty thoughts. That's Aussie TV.
(This vieo is sexual in nature. I wouldn't watch it at work. No nudity. Lots of hand motions. Sexy hand motions.)

I don't think so (minus your self proclaimed connoisseur-ness of porn )
American media is very right wing compared to the rest of the world.
Guns, violence, blood, gore, it's all A-OK, but show a rear end or god forbid a little cleavage and the GOP evangelical goons go on a full blown rampage.
TV media censorship is another perfect example of how the right wing establishment keeps pushing their anti-freedom agenda on the nation.

If it's a "right wing" thing then why hasn't the "left wing" worked to change this when they were in power? We've come a long way since requiring the married couple to be shown in separate beds. We still have a long way to go.
