How do you explain people who choose to be abstinent until marriage - such as myself. I have turned down a few sexual propositions - and my reason was that I was waiting for marriage - a woman who doesn't respect that doesn't interest me(and these ladies certainly were tempting!). I want a lady who understand that sex is not a game - and instead sees it as a beautiful expression of love between a man and a woman who are truly committed to each other. That committment provides the neccesary foundation for raising children - and if a child is conceived - it should be brought into a stable family environment.

Our society has drifted away from the concept of sexual activity being reserved for marriage - and I think that the idea will make a swift return. Fifty years of "sexual revolution" have not been good for our society - we have too many broken homes, single parent households, fatherhood is considered meaningless, poverty is rampant, abortions are on the rise, kids are gravitating to crime, they are hungry, sometimes homeless - all of this is because the family unit has been disrespected and undermined.

Here are a few universal truths: children need a mother and a father, sexual activity can create a child, marriage is between a man and a woman - and provides the foundation for family which is vital to raising children, breaking down the family structure - through out of wedlock sex, promiscuity, abortion, gay marriage and adoption, divorce(yes-the attack on the family often comes from within), eroding of parental rights, government overreach, ect... harms any human society.

Our children learn what we teach them. If they are taught that they should be irresponsible when it comes to sex - that is exactly how they will behave. If they are taught that sex is a beautiful, sacred expression of love and committment, and should be approached with respect - they will respond and our society may begin to edge away from the cliff it is tottering on at the moment.

This is not universally true.

Less abortions will mean more Jesus Christ loving single mother black and white women of America raising a kid on their own and plaguing the welfare system of this country to feed tiny Tim.

LOL ! That's all you got ?! Honey, that was so long ago, you can poke fun all you want it doesn't affect me. In restrospect, it was a blessing in disguise. Btw, you think you know me, but you don't...I like sex, a lot, I don't think it's dirty at all. But I would never give pornography to a child. Have a nice life.

You are digging yourself even deeper into your hole of ignorance. Playboy has never had anything to do with pornography.

You seem like a very angry person. If you like sex so much, why don't you go and have some? Oh right, you're a born again virgin. Too bad - maybe you would not come off as such a bitter slattern.

And FWIW - you really should read up about a subject before you make flippant and offensive replies to topics you are ignorant of, such as IUD pregnancies.

I'm talking about the human race, not you personally. Some people actually have no desire for sex.

Society never actually reserved sex for marriage, sex existed first. This is just another "the 1950's in the USA - TV version - was the bestest ever!" fantasy. Do you know ANYTHING of human history? Sex isn't sacred or spiritual unless you tell yourself it is. It's a biological function necessary to perpetuate our species. Beyond that it's only what we make of it.

There isn't that much to study, humans are only a few thousand years old, or so says the bible.

You are basing this accessment on my recognition of a marked shift in societal values in the United States over the last 50 or so years?

I am well aware that civilizations have existed where promiscuity has not only been condoned but it was a centerpiece of culture. I, unlike you apparently, understand that human societies have reinvented themselves in several manners over the course of history - that women in different periods have actually held the power in some civilizations - then lost it - and regained it.

History is not some sliding scale where all the world was at one point and then moved to another - it is not a linear progressio - it is much more complex than that, and geography, climate, and knowledge(or lack of it) all play a part in how various societies developed. However it is true that the United States experienced a marked shift in its overall system of values starting at approximately 1960 C.E. and continuing to the present - this is the trend that I am referencing and it is not invalidated by your pointing to the cultural proclivities of civilizations that existed several thousand years a go - or even more recently.
