House defeats bill to ban gender-based abortions: "A bill that would ban sex-selective abortions failed to muster enough support to pass the House Thursday following a contentious debate. The final vote was 246-168. Though a majority voted in favor of the bill, this particular proposal required a two-thirds majority to pass -- supporters of the bill fell 30 votes short. The proposal would have made it a federal crime to carry out an abortion based on the gender of the fetus. The measure takes aim at the aborting of female fetuses, a practice more common to countries such India and China, where there is a strong preference for sons, but which is also thought to take place in the U.S."

"The White House and Democratic lawmakers opposed the bill out of concern that it could end up subjecting doctors to strict punishment."

Ya think? They'd be practicing female infanticide. I'm waiting for the peeps in NOW to open their yappers.

Either that or they agree that it's not the government's business as to why women are getting abortions.

Once again you are ASSuming that it is females being aborted. Secondly how do you plan on Proving that someone is having an abortion for that reason, unless they state it to a doctor there is apsolutely no way to know. Major Failure when it comes to logic. Looks like another backdoor effort to ban all abortions to me

Glad to hear another attack on women and huge government bill from the GOP got shot down.

Why does the GOP hate women and freedom so much?

Fancy that, keeping the government OUT of the private lives of individuals.

It almost sounds like a conservative idea; doesn't it?

Sounds like a common sense idea, actually. Something neither major party has any clue about.

Neither of the two major political parties, nor their candidates, are "waging war" on women. There are significant differences in the platforms and policies promoted by the parties and their candidates, however. The Democratic Party, generally, will, I believe, be seen more sympathetic to the issues most women really care about.

Why do the Democrats hate women and freedom so much..... is the even better question...

One I am sure you will deflect from answering truthfully

They don't, that's why they overwhelmingly voted against this anti-women and anti-freedom piece of trash from the GOP.

Now are you going to answer the question of why does the GOP hate women and freedom so much? Or are you going to do in typical right wing fashion of just deflect,..

Shh. You're making sense.

I have no idea why the Reps are offended by this as they believe all abortions should be illegal for nearly any reason. Many of the nuttier ones believe that even in cases of incest, rape and saving a woman's life it should still be illegal.
