Even if you make only $10,000, I believe that you should owe at least $10 in income taxes. It is the only thing that makes you "invested" in the country! (Especially for renters)
Well, the tax code says otherwise, and the last major revamp of the tax code was under Reagan, a Republican, in 1986. Good luck selling the concept that poor people need to pay more taxes.

So the fact that they pay payroll taxes, sales tax, gasoline taxes, etc. counts for... what?
The one thing in common that a class of kindergarteners have with nearly 50% of the country is they pay net 0 Federal taxes, though adults do pay Federal taxes in other forms (gasoline, cell phones, airline tickets, etc.).
Is that simple enough for you?
There is a huge difference between people who have the ability to earn money, and those who cant.
And the fact they pay other taxes, is meaningless to the topic. Try to follow along.

Sales tax is state, most gasoline taxes are state, payroll taxes come back to them in the form of Social Security.. etc.. The fact that they pay them has nothing to do with the topic because rich people also pay them..

Geez, your understanding is quite impaired.
I was drawing the distinction that one of your fellow morons made about adults versus a Kindergarten class. Sorry if that sailed right over your head.
Second, most of the people in that 50% are retirees, or part timers who often are going to school. So the old people need to get off their lazy butts and work? Kids should stop going to school to satisfy your outrage? A family of 4 who makes under 26,4K a year are already earning money, just not enough to pay Federal taxes under the current system.

There are Federal taxes associated with gasoline, and that cost is passed on to the consumer.
This also sailed over your head, but one poster seemed to think the 50% who do not pay taxes were exactly like kindergartners, and I was making the distinction that adults pay taxes that 5 year olds don't.

You are the one who compared 1/2 of americans to 5 year olds..

Most retirees dont file income tax returns thus are not taxpayers.
