Why is China constructing large, well-designed “ghost cities” that are completely devoid of people?

Now, the BBC reports a giant new Chinese-built city has been spotted in Africa in the outskirts of Angola’s capital Luanda.

More eerie ‘ghost cities’ popping up

and there are lots of ghost cities in China.

The answer to the riddle is pretty obvious in light of socialist central planning.

It is their version of "shovel ready jobs" in the form of a virtual SIM City.

its the old " dig a hole and fill it approach " , keeps people in work and makes the figures look better , rarely ends well though

To give the aliens a place to live and to acclimate them to living on earth and possibly amongst humans. Uh Oh.

That I can answer with 3 letters

GDP.

They have targets to hit and useless construction looks great for GDP.

China should be buying up the US & Canada instead of building cities nobody will ever live in.

America will still be around in 10 years.

What I have to wonder is... Eventually, the buildings in these cities will eventually be unsellable due to decay. I wonder if they're being maintained, waiting on sale? Build a building, leave it standing for 30 years, and it will require major restoration work before it will be usable again. We're already a quarter of the way there (7 years) for some of these "ghost cities".

They could never afford the costs of the American people. We would be terrible tenants. Without jobs, how can Americans pay their rent?
