Some of them were responsible adults and some made poor decisions.

People like to talk about public debt, but you don't hear much about our private debt. Funny how you don't hear politicians talking about us and what we did to ourselves. Truth hurts.

Then people will whine that those old folks won't quit their jobs and give me a chance.

I know people making 6 figures and have barely anything in their 401K.
People think of NOW, NOW, NOW and not tomorrow.

I maxed out every year and got company match up to whatever percent.
And it's my money.

I don't understand how so many can make that much money and have nothing to show for it but debt.

I [single parent] never made more than $50,000 on my job and I maxed out my 401k too.

The only thing I regret is not putting more $$$ in my Roth IRAs.

My problem is with the average undisciplined spendthrift American who lives beyond his means
and spends every last dime of his income and then some [ie, cc debt] on self-indulgence.

As my first post here says, I make allowances for people who have health issues.

I worked in the medical field and met many such unfortunate people.

One sweet sad couple were in their late 50s. Both had health problems and huge medical bills.
The last time I spoke with them, they had sold off most of their furniture to help pay bills.

How is this country supposed to deal with these peoples mismanagement of their lives? This is going to have dramatic effects on a ton of things
I think they figure the government will provide very nicely for them. And they'll get a Social Security check, food stamps. People now depend on the government for everything.

Don't let the government find out you've saved money. They'll come after you, they'll just tax you to death and take your money to redistribute to those who never bothered saving.

Face it -- the government penalizes responsible behavior and rewards irresponsible behavior.

When the banks and financial houses mismanaged they got a federal bail-out. Pony up people, gotta bail out the seniors.

Income Main- People and Households - U.S. Census Bureau

You don't have a problem, and you set the parameters?
How do you know who has medical problems or lives outside of their means?
You don't.
Talk about painting with a wide brush.

I've attached the US census bureau data on income.
People don't make enough to save as you would like for them to save.

But you don't call the shots.
You're also making great assumptions on data not in evidence.
