"Family values" is a marketing term used by conservatives to conjure up warm, comforting, nostalgic images of moms making apple pie and children playing hopscotch.

The more we have gotten away from families the more young men have become hypermasculine savages and the more young women select such men. Families civilize us and are the best way to raise healthy children.

Except that the highest rates of domestic violence are found in the most conservative States.

That is true. But look at it this way: the most conservative states are the states where liberalism has done the greatest damage, and continues to do the greatest damage. Residents of these states have a front row seat when it comes to the destructive effects of liberalism on ordinary people.

The blue states, by contrast, are insulated from the effects of liberalism by their wealth and education levels. And the saving grace of wealthy liberal elites is their hypocrisy: they actually tend to marry at higher rates, stay married, and live the kind of "traditional" lives they publicly denigrate and seek to undermine.

Oh, for goodness sakes. What a load of bigoted bilge water.

Smacking the wife and kids used to be not only acceptable, but legal as well. When I was a kid during the 1950's, just about every father in the neighborhood did it with regularity and on the rare occasions when it got bad enough for someone to call the cops (only if a fight spilled outside), they wouldn't intervene. Know why? Because it was the man's house and he could what he wanted.

And, as for that traditional family value of one man and one wife or the "sanctity of marriage?" I hear a lot about that from my fellow Southern Baptist's, yet more than half the congregation have been divorced at one time or another, sometimes more than once. We preach it, but live lives of serial adultery.

In my opinion, family is one that should treat each other with love, kindness, and respect. That should reach outside the front door with the kindness and respect aspect.

You always offer kindness and respect until you are given a reason not to.

Default What ARE traditional, family values?

If you have to ask, you'll never understand the answer.

This is the only post in here that doesn't exclude people the other posts think are not "normal" (because they aren't like them).

To me the traditional family concept is a crock of sh*t. Plenty of people have been raised in "non traditional" families and turned out fine.
