When I was homeless, the thing I missed most was milk. I've always drank a lot of it, and the small containers were too big and the little one too expensive. I'll bet they would be very glad to have milk. It's not hard to come by when you have a refrigerator.

yes, the intrusion of gov't over our food choices is very disturbing. I think the Dept of Ag is protecting their interests, and the public isn't one of those. I would love to try raw milk and cheese, but will probably never get that opportunity.

Vacation in my state (PA). Totally legal to sell raw milk in retail stores here and more Amish farms than you can shake a stick at. Just don't fly back with it, because I think it's restricted when under interstate commerce.

I haven't gone out of my way one bit. Dairy goats are what I know. It's what the available property under consideration - which is available rent-free - is set up to do.

And besides, it's not just about the milk. It's about the benefits of working with livestock, the responsibility, the dignity, the closeness to the soil and to God.

When I was homeless, in Riverside County, one of the churches would bring food to the park. They'd have to make a quick run in and out, and left the food sitting on a table. If someone picked it up and ate it it was legal. But it was illegal for them to bring it. I lived on Wendy's potatos with chili with a little cheese. Three bucks for a filling dinner. Also lived on a lot of pb&J sandwitches.

To quote myself: "On the other hand I really don't care if you give goats milk to homeless people so...."
It's not just about the milk so obviously there will be plenty of benefit with soil and god and livestock even without it. And again, I don't care if you give goats milk to homeless people. I'm not fighting to stop you.

I've done that with some of the fruit from our orchard. Left a box in the city plaza. Doesn't last long!

As I understand it, leaving the fresh fruit was legal, but it would have been illegal to leave pies, muffins, cookies, or anything deemed "processed" in a home kitchen.

You know, I had a feeling that might be the case!

It's really a perfect fit. There would be no shortage of workers for the dairy, and the health benefits would be enormous too.

Trying to do the right thing is not always the best solution, but to survive you do what you must.
I hope you find a workable solution, everyone needs dairy.

T.
Ummm, what?
No, dairy is not a requirement.
People can and do live without it.

Humans are the only animals that drink/use another's milk.

You blame government for agribusiness and population growth?
Please explain the reasoning behind your comment.

BTW, when I lived in CA, we did raise cows and chickens. We were zoned for it; but that was decades ago and I'm sure zoning has changed.
