I'm sure you have seen where states like Florida want to purge the deceased from their rolls so they do not get a ballot to start with. Will this cover every instance? Not likely, but it would make it harder.
Please explain why making it harder to commit voter fraud is a bad thing?
Didn't say it was a bad thing. I just haven't seen a single solution to stop the cases of rare voter fraud.
Imperson voter fraud is probably the most impractical thing to do anyways. Absentee or Insider methods are still the most common occurances (which btw are still very rare, our system works pretty well).
Another thing is the felon voting issue as voter ID doesn't stop that either. I have met people who are honestly sometimes clueless they can't vote if they got a felony. Maybe states need a more dynamic way to de-register someone once convicted?
Oh and if the ID is not free, I disagree with it. If an ID is required to vote, there must be a valid one that is free.

If the dead are not on the rolls, they don't get an absentee ballot.

There is precedent after precedent after precedent where the courts have ruled that you can not require a voter I.D. unless the state provides one at no cost.
While things like this are not likely to have a major impact on national elections, the threat of voter fraud becomes MUCH larger when it comes down to the state and especially local elections.
I agree that there should be voter ID requirements and that they should be free if someone doesn't have one. (ie. 90yo lady that doesn't drive etc etc.)
Also, keep in mind people....the links I provided above shows both R's and D's that have been caught messing around with this stuff.
Additionally, this is just ONE way to try to tamper with elections. In recent years we had a R operative out east engage in robo-calling and jamming phone centers which got him prison time and in Wisconsin we had relatives of prominent D's get caught slashing the tires on Repub get out the vote vehicles the night before an election.
Anyone that isn't suspicious and aware of vote shennanigans in this country is either horribly ill-informed or hyper-partisan and hoping that the cheating provides more benefits to "thier side".
I'm shocked, shocked I say that you never came back to the thread after we did just this.
