Give it four more years and we should hit No. 10. Switzerland and Singapore take the lead - again. Maybe some of our politicians should be looking at these two countries to see what they are doing right.

Quote:
The United States' ability to compete on the global stage has fallen for the fourth year running as confidence in the country's politicians continues to decline, an annual survey from the World Economic Forum found Wednesday.

The report found that some aspects of the U.S.'s political environment continue to raise concern among business leaders, "particularly the low public trust in politicians and a perceived lack of government efficiency

The Forum......ranks a country's competitiveness according to factors such as the state of its infrastructure and its ability to foster innovation.
U.S. drops to No. 7 in global competitiveness » The Commercial Appeal

So, since Obama has been in office US ranking has been declining every year.

Can someone arrange to have this report delivered to Obama and may as well send one to Romney.

Here's the entire World Economic Forum report if anyone is interested:

It's unrealistic to assume such a tendency starts at one election date. The downward trend in the US compared to the upward trend of other countries has started decades ago, it's a gradual process.

We lost our #1 spot a long time ago, not in the last four years. It's strange the more socialist countries are ranked more "competitive".

Yes. Plus, it shows that cheap labor costs are not crucial for competitiveness as Switzerland has a very high wage level.

I can tell you right now what they are doing 'right'.

Their political parties work together, instead of here, where the republicans sit on their hands and vow to do nothing to help our country.

As you said "their political parties". To say the fault falls to the Republican party ONLY is foolish. One party does not own the irresponsibility of not working with the other.

If their political parties are working together and that is a reason for the country's economic competitive strength, it would be an indication that their political parties work together with the interest of the country and the people first, unlike the US political parties that focus on the improvement or gain for special interest groups or their own personal agendas.

Are there any reason for the u.s. to compete globally. Let look at this pragmatically North America has more resources than the 550 million people who live here could ever hope to consume so what to we gain by participating in a global economy?

The answer is nothing, we end up having to compete against the 6.5 billion other people on this planet for our own resources the only people who are benefiting from this system are the thieves who are stealing our resources then selling them back to us.

How is that possible?? Do you know how "socialist" Switzerland is? Singapore has UNIVERSAL health care, for God's sake! Hmmm...riddle me that.

I thought the only way to be competitive was to cut everything, eliminate government, and tell people "good luck - you're on your own."

They also have very lax guns laws and..... gasp..... extremely low crime rates

All sorts of partisan assumptions going out the window here

We are less competitive because BOTH parties are destroying America and its middle class and financial system.
