The prediction, from Steve Pieczenik, is that Israel will false flag this war on Yom Kippur, which is Sept 25 and 26th, 2012. He states that Israel will torpedo the USS Enterprise. This will be blamed on Iran. Obama then has the excuse to engage in all out war, and start bombarding Iran's nuclear facility's.
Pieczenik is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State through three different administrations.
While I think that OP is theoretically possible, I don't think that the US would respond with nuclear force.
