So if I say I am disgusted by black people and dislike them to the point I think they should be discriminated against, prohibited from marriage amongst themselves and barred from certain occupations.... I'm just voicing the same level of disgust as someone who hates mushrooms?

The fact is there are always problems with some people in the military. And now, there will be problems with some openly gay people in the military, and most of it will have nothing to do with sexual matters. Some will, and it needs to be addressed and that goes for heterosexual matters too. Whatever your sexual orientation is not everyone is cut out to handle military life, they can and should be weeded out. I'm going to let the military handle their own.
