My Daughter (when she was still a student and too old to be on MY health insurance) went to one of the many free clinics available to her located in hospitals that did all those things.

Anyone with Internet access can Google such donated health services in their area. You can also get free (or based on your income) dental clinics.... just the same.

It STILL doesn't answer the question of why PP needs TAXPAYER money to REFER women.

On top of that question, what about all the undercover videos out there of PP breaking the law?

Why would you get a mammogram without working with your doctor? Are you getting one without going in for other cancer screening, like pap smears and manual exams conducted by your doctor? Most people get a mammogram as part of a complete annual check up. Just because you can schedule the visit on your own doesn't mean that the results wouldn't be sent to your doctor, and that your doctor wouldn't go over them with you, and, if there was a problem, plan a course of treatment. If you're under 40, you wouldn't get a mammogram unless something was found in the manual exam during your annual visit by your health care provider (in some instances, Planned Parenthood) that raised concerns. That's the role that Planned Parenthood plays--they play exactly the same role as your personal GYN.

Obama's statement is patently false:

"When Gov. Romney says that we should eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, there are millions of women all across the country who rely on Planned Parenthood for not just contraceptive care, they rely on it for mammograms,” said Obama Oct. 16 during the second presidential debate.

First off....."millions". I'd like to see that statistic somewhere.

Secondly, PP doesn't DO mammograms!

Third, they don't need taxpayer's subsidies to REFER anyone.

Because the public funding goes for the well woman visits/cancer screening--the manual breast exam, pap smear, internal exam, lab work, etc., plus the follow up visits to interpret the results of the mammogram if there's a problem. Why is this so hard to understand. You don't just go out and get a mammogram in a vacuum. It's part of a comprehensive medical visit.

Of course that's not actually the topic here either.

Obama said MILLIONS go to PP for Mammograms...which is false.

If you support PP and many liberals do (despite undercover videos showing them breaking the law) then you can support them with your DONATIONS.

That's VOLUNTARY.

The TAXPAYER doesn't need to be FORCED to support them just to make referrals.

One of the best early detection programs for breast and cervical cancer in the country is in Texas. Planned Parenthood gives vouchers (in other words pays) for the mammograms. This whole brouhaha is over does vs. paid, really all that matters is that people are getting the screening they need. Please tell the 6, 400 women who get their breast screening annually at PP central Texas that it never happened.

Planned Parenthood has a huge role to play in early detection of breast and cervical cancers in women whether people like it or not. It's on your conscience if you fight to remove funding for middle and lower income women to get the health screenings they need.

So it costs a LOT of taxpayer's money to REFER women to other places?

PS: There are LOADS of free clinics for this and dental care as well.

No you do not! You don't have to have a referral to get one. Your insurance rules may require them for them to pay for it.

1) Planned Parenthood gives vouchers for the mammograms, ie. they pay for them.

2) It would be really helpful if you read the links, in the large area I was posting about, there are no other resources available.

IF you like PP....then by all means voluntarily DONATE to them.

They don't deserve TAXPAYERS being FORCED to donate to them...especially people who are against what they DO.

I'm not even against abortions, but I don;t see why anyone who is against them should be forced to donate to them in the form of their tax dollars.
