WASHINGTON — Income inequality has soared to the highest levels since the Great Depression, and the recession has done little to reverse the trend, with the top 1 percent of earners taking 93 percent of the income gains in the first full year of the recovery.
The recession of course enforced the trend. We decided that the best way to address the recession was to make sure the markets needs were addressed ahead of everything else.

This is what happens when Americans are brainwashed into believing their are only 2 choices for president. Wall St candidate #1 and Wall St candidate #2..... Obama/Romney, Bush before that and Clinton before that
The people need to take the power back
Agree with your link, it is way too out of wack......
The core of the Republican ideology is to emphasize the DIFFERENCES which separate us not the similiarities which bring us together. It's no wonder that 8 years of Bush and 4 years of tea party-downgraded Republicans in Congress, have contributed mightily to inequality at every turn.

A couple of obvious questions that must be addressed before the subject can be intelligently discussed:
1) what are the causes? I don't think there is a consensus among economists on this.
2) is inequality ipso facto bad? Look at the music industry or Hollywood. The top stars are multimillionaires, while the hordes of aspirants who haven't made it yet are the proverbial 'starving artists,' usually waiting tables to survive. The inequality is off the charts. Yet the underlying reason is that the consumer only wants to consume the very best, top-notch entertainment, and under our system, that's what they get.
