Hopefully Obama realizes that he won and they lost. He needs to hold his ground with the Republicans on the fiscal cliff and let them know who the boss is. He needs to tell them the Bush tax cuts will NOT be extended for the rich and, if the Republicans refuse to extend them for the middle class and it wrecks the economy, they have to run for re election in 2 years and he doesn't have to run again. Same with the sequestration. Since most of it is going to hit the military and defense contractors, most of which are in deep red states like Texas, Kansas and Georgia, Obama should tell them "go ahead and make my day". When they are forced to choose between Grover Norquist and thousands of jobs being lost in their states, they will back down.

Obama did that last time---you can see where it got us. A president needs to be able to work across the aisle like Reagan did for anything to be accomplished. I suspect Obama will be the same again and we will have another 4 years of stalemates.

I suspect that the Republican party will continue to stonewall and gridlock - as they pledged to do from the day President Obama took office.

The world is watching.

Obama needs to hold his ground, revenue has to come from somewhere or defense gets cut.

He should mention it again. At least the president can say the word "compromise"...and Boehner better do that.

The fiscal cliff includes:
• The expiration of Bush-era tax cuts on income, investments, married couples and families with children and inheritances. In addition, some 26 million additional face the alternative minimum tax next filing season, which would raise their taxes by an average of $3,700. Cost through September: $330 billion.

A $55 billion, 9 percent cut in the defense budget next year and another $55 billion in cuts to domestic programs, including a 2 percent cut to Medicare providers.

• The expiration of unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless. Cost: $26 billion.

• A sharp cut in reimbursements for doctors participating in Medicare. Cost: $11 billion.

• The expiration of Obama’s temporary 2 percentage point cut in payroll taxes. Cost: $95 billion.

You do realize one of those tax cuts was the elimination of the marriage penalty that hits middle class Americans hard, right?

Maybe Obama will make good on whatever he promised when he was caught whispering sweet words into the ears of Putin's boy.

Anyone here have any idea what he was promising?

I sure don't but I am curious.
