liberals like to say educated people vote Democratic, yet most small business owners vote Republican. Talk to anybody that runs a successful business college educated or not, they will tell you the learned FAR more FROM RUNNING THAT BUSINESS than they ever did being taught in college by a lib professor who has probably never worked in the real world. Why the voting disparity? Those educated in the 'real world' VOTE MORE rEPUBLICAN. Why do you think that is?

Probably but not in all situations. It depends what your major is.

Would you say that some guy who runs the food cart down the street selling hots dogs/soda is more educated than a Professor of Astrophysics at Harvard?

If you believe that, then you are crazy.

However I would say that the food cart vendor is more educated then some lib professor who only knows gender studies.

There is something to be said about having a well rounded education. I was a business major but I enjoyed and took alot out of my Science Labs, History classes, Literature classes etc.etc..

Of course learning on the job is the best way to learn about that job but there is more to learn about then just your particular career path.

I agree with you, thats why the title of my thread involves the words 'worthless degree'.

"Education: That which discloses to the wise and disguises from the foolish their lack of understanding."- Ambrose Pierce

"Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught."- Oscar Wilde

Give me examples of worthless degrees? You also do realize that most businesses fail

The thing about opinions is that, just like a certain part of your anatomy, everyone has one.

Knowing how to do one or two things well---like drilling wells or fixing furnaces or any number of small businesses you could name---isn't that same as getting an education that gives you the ability to understand the complexities of world cultures, science, problems solving, etc. A well rounded education can be applied to many professions or careers. Knowing how to run a successful hot dog stand or plumbing shop....not so much. "Real world" education has value and are usually bases on the trades. We need them in society BUT to say it has more value than a college degree---that's just crazy. We need both kinds of people in a successful society---formally educated and real world educated. It's not a contest.

I think the OP is correct, Ronald Reagan had a degree in sociology and look what happened when he became President. Reagan's greatest work were his hollywood films with a chimp
