Welfare is supposed to be "helpful", meant to get you back on your feet. Not a generational lifestyle passed down because people think they are owed something or just want a free ride from day one.
It's got nothing to do with the reasons or perceptions of the folks who are taking the welfare, but the perceptions of the general populace. There is academic research (social sciences, but still) that shows that by and large when people think of white folks on welfare they think that they legitimately need help. When they see black/hispanic/nonwhites on welfare they think they are gaming the system and and don't really need the assistance.

After Sandy? Didn't see anything getting taken. Not even food - the reason might be because the governor of NJ wasn't as stupid or unprepared as NOLA's mayor & governor was. But can't blame those two morons. Has to be Bush's fault. Even though protocol dictates otherwise....
At the same time, if you need food, you take it. No one would care if it folks were in such dire straits.
They depend on their voter base being stupid. That's why they want to keep as many kids as possible trapped in abysmally performing public schools and adamantly refuse to allow school vouchers/choice. The least educated are the Democrats' biggest voting block.
Washington DC is another city that has been dominated by liberal Democrats for decades. It spends more per capita on students than almost any other city in the world, yet it has some of the worst academic achievement anywhere. Obama would not dream of sending his own precious daughters to the DC public schools, of course -- but he assures us that those schools are good enough for everyone else. Yep the fact is Obama had a hand in killing a popular and effective school voucher program in DC, effectively killing hopes for many poor black families trapped in those dysfunctional public schools. His allegiance to the teachers unions apparently trumps his concern for poor black families.
And now that Obama is owned by the unions watch the unions now flexing muscle today.
Democratic support for perpetual affirmative action is racist. It is the antithesis of Martin Luther King's vision of a color-blind society. Not only is it "reverse racism," but it is based on the premise that blacks are incapable of competing in the free market on a level playing field. In other words, it is based on the notion of white supremacy, albeit "benevolent" white supremacy rather than the openly hostile white supremacy of the pre-1960s Democratic Party.
well technically you have to live so many miles away from the school before you can ride the bus
Right. In which case those parents should be getting a refund for having to drive their kids to school. Especially in states where property taxes fund public education which includes transportation to and from public schools.
I used to get $800 per kid back....and then the township BOE got smart and gave us a bus - and to a private school!
Don't feel bad, women also became political pawns.
Democrats’ claims that Republicans are waging a “war on women,†which was the latest replacement for the time-worn “race card.†The war on women is just another extension of the race card. When you cannot control the narrative and you can't run on your horrible record you have to think of a way to attack.
I don't think the dem campaign on the surface was extremely negative since Obama speeches were as Politically Correct as Romneys, but the results are obvious from the negative responses here and out in the real world.

Media perception is what I was getting at:
Sorry, 'racism' doesn't work here.
Read what the photographers who took these pictures actually saw (bottom of page):
the author of that article mentions racism behind the numbers not correlating identically to population, which is true.
for example, in milwaukee an admitted white felon had a better chance of getting hired then a clean black, same resume, applying for jobs in the same field.
if whites treat you like a felon because your black, and whites do the hiring, what do you do?
the answer is quotas if you have to face that crap.

Sometimes reality bites . . . . so much for the stereotypes.
1. it uses SS....so TOPIC FAIL
2. what is the population breakdown???? blacks make up only 14% of the poplulation......and by your link...they get 33% of the welfare.....double their percentage of the population......so again TOPIC FAIL...since blacks make up a HIGHER percent of the welfare in comparison to the population demographics breakdown
3. by the way the TRUE numbers are
White 38.8%
Black 39.8
Hispanic 15.7
Asian 2.4
other 3.3
Blacks make up less 14% of the population and are almost 40% of all recipients, so they represent about 2.5 times their actual population. Since Whites are over 50% of the total US pop., they represent less than their overall piece of the pie, population-wise. Hispanics are at least 15% of the general population, so they take only about as much as what their population represents.
The photographer for Getty Images, Mr. Graythen, said in an e-mail message that he had also stuck to what he had seen to write his caption, and had actually given the wording a great deal of thought. Mr. Graythen described seeing the couple near a corner store from an elevated expressway. The door to the shop was open, and things had floated out to the street. He was not able to talk to the couple, "so I had to draw my own conclusions," he said.
Interesting that this photog could reasonably deduce that the items were from a nearby grocery store yet he chose the worlds "found" because those were probably good people down on their luck. Or do ya'll wanna tell me that they went in and paid for those items while the cash register was under water?
