There are statements on record, specifically the South Carolina secession ordinance and also statements by the Vice President of the Confederacy, that issues regarding slavery were the direct cause of their secession. So while its true that Lincoln's cause wasn't ending slavery, it's equally true that the instigators of secession's primary motivation was keeping and extending it. For that putrid cause, they betrayed their country and started a war costing thousands of lives.
That clearly being the case, any defense of these human-traffickers and traitors is just morally offensive. Lincoln went way too easy on them.

If the south`s direct cause was keepin slavery and Lincoln`s cause wasn`t ending slavery then what was all of the fighting about?
The confederacy winning wouldn't have saved slavery.
If the Confederacy had won and maintained slavery one day, one hour, one minute longer than otherwise it would have been one day, one hour, or one minute too long.
