Yeah one hell of a bastion of liberalism.

That sometimes does happen....we do live in a country where local governments were founded on corruption. Look up Boss Tweed and you will see what I am talking about.

That's undoubtedly true. Though what is intriguing is that people have more trust in local levels of government, even though they tend to be more familiar with the corruption at those levels.

Local level government also has a direct effect on where you live and it is worth taking part in that and showing an active interest towards it. Plus not all local governments are corrupt, I have seen plenty of them that function perfectly fine.

In principle, I'm totally against zoning and regulations, but in practice, if it would inconvenience me, then I am all for zoning and regulations.

I don't see any reason why I should not be able to build a ten or twenty foot fence around my property, if I wanted to, however. (Where I live the regulations actually say front fences can be no higher than three feet so the police can see possible illegal activities from the street!)

If you want to truly own your land you need an allodial title, which grants you ownership of land that is independent of any superior landlord. Only Texas and Nevada have limited allodial title provisions.

Considering this, no one actually owns their land. Depending on where you live, you can't hunt on it off season. Everywhere in the US you are subject to the whims of the EPA, the Endangered Species Act or any number of other federal laws and regulations.

The best that can be said is that people pay rent to the government for land and are allowed to earn money from it. That's a long way from the principles this country was founded upon. The idea that we live in a free country is a fabrication and myth. The saddest thing is that as crappy as this country has become in the last several decades, it's still probably as good as it gets in the world.
Not if it effect me then its my business.

Sounds like it's time to move.

The land is a result of being granted to you by the sovereign state. If you don't want the help of the state then I am sure some people would like to know that you alone will defend the land that you claim. Good luck with maintaining your own security. Yeah right, you'd squeal the moment an armed gang arrived.

Now beyond that as much personal freedom that does not harm others should be tolerated ; that was the society I thought we wanted. However you cannot leave it a wasteland. I find that offensive not just now but a 1000 years from now. The unborn deserves our prudence.

Get an "allodial title", then you can tell the gov to take a hike.
