Did you fail to see who makes up the 1% in Roadking's post? I guess you did and just can't get away from that political 1% number.

Private , if you remove some of the regulations which are very old...then Private will flood in... There are a few private projects underway , but removing these outdated Regulations would cause a flood of private regulations.

If they can eliminate the TSA and hassle of flying, I'm there. Too bad the bureaucracy will invariably f*** this up.

It seems to me that few, if any writing here managed to look at that map in the OP. When I saw it I immediately thought about the map of the US that Agenda 21 has provided. Only one person here has mentioned disturbing the elk with railroads in the center part of the nation. I think that some of you need to take some time to see what Agenda 21 says we would do concerning that part of the nation to be given back to the animals. I know that very few of you have looked at that map no matter how many times I have offered it to you. Look at this map and tell me about those rail lines in that area of the nation they propose.

Study this map and see how much waste would be involved in building that thing once Agenda 21 goes into effect. Should be a winner, I would think.

Theres still the congestion issues with flying in the Northeast were at capacity and can't expand our Airports so Rail is the only answer....

One needs to look at a map of Europe to learn that the distance from Berlin to Madrid or Rome to Copenhagen are comparable those from Boston to Miami or New York to Chicago or Chicago to Houston or Atlanta to Dallas. One can travel by high-speed (200+ mph) rail service from Rome to Madrid or Rome to Copenhagen. The Russians are building a high speed rail link between St Petersburg and Moscow which is over a 1000 miles one way and Russia is not like the rest of Europe it has a smaller population density just like the USA or Canada. Russia might extend these lines to Rostov, Kazan or all the way to the Far East where it can link up with the 50,000 miles high speed network being built as we speak in China!. Just imagine high speed train service from Waterloo Station in London (UK) to Shanghai China. The USA is not so vast when compared with the Eurasian landmass! Also rail is much more energy efficvient than either auto or air travel and can be powered by renewable or nuclear energy sources which may be crucial in a world running short of both oil and gas or even coal.

There are like 20 threads already on this topic.

There are good arguments from both sides.
