And now there is precedence to have STATE DOMA laws struck down.
This has been the buzz on all the news shows here in Pennsylvania this morning.
You see, same sex marriage is not legal here in the Keystone State not because of any state constitutional ban on it (there is no constitutional ban on it here) but because of a legislative act known as the "mini PA DOMA." Legal scholars are saying because of this morning's SCOTUS ruling this state law is very vulnerable to being overturned by state courts who can cite SCOTUS's ruling on DOMA. There are state legislators who are already drafting a bill to legalize same sex marriage in Harrisburg.
The gays here live and work and marry and adopt and go about their business like everyone else. Why would they need my money?
It would be as pointless as me giving money so that women would be allowed to vote. it's just no longer an issue.
I don't hate gays at all, and I am not especially religious. But if you are looking for a Biblical reference, read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The New English Bible (Oxford/Cambridge) has a straightforward, easy-to-read translation of the original text (around Genesis 18-19). Has nothing to do with tattoos or fabrics.
You're right. It has to do with hospitality. A divine commandment under Jewish law, one in which breaking brings about God's judgment.
Ezekiel 16:49 "'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
The story of Sodom is the most butchered in the entire Bible, because no one bothers to actually read the other verses that explain it.
Really this ruling matters none with the the courts striking down DOMA in the big picture but I hate when the court does this. Just rule on the issue and quit tying up so much court time making people bring the issue back over and over.
To say that the people who passed the issue has no standing to defend it is stupid.
As far as I know the government isn't forcing anyone to eat shellfish. Our leaders are on the road to forcing us to approve of an abomination, raising it to the level of His blessed sacrament.
The government isn't forcing you to have a same sex marriage either. They aren't even forcing YOU to approve of it.
What do you mean "no"? It's a fact that hundreds of thousands of gay couples here in the US have children.
Surely you jest. They may raise children (I am very sorry to say), but they cannot have children in a biological sense. That's not how it works. Two lesbians cannot give birth to a child.
It depends on what benefits you're talking about. Evidently Social Security confers with your state of residence, not where you were married. Military benefits, on the other hand, only care about that.
Obama is going to be in the thick of this very soon.
That's what I mean. So, this has a lot of issues behind it that I do not think has been fully explored as of yet.
