Sen. Rand Paul: We Should Let Dems Raise Taxes And Then Let Them Own It | RealClearPolitics

Quote:
SEN. RAND PAUL: I have yet another thought on how we can fix this. Why don't we let the Democrats pass whatever they want? If they are the party of higher taxes, all the Republicans vote present and let the Democrats raise taxes as high as they want to raise them,

snip
Finally someone on the republican side with some common sense.

Someone that`s not reading the polls and dealing with reality.

So, Rand Paul says that the Republicans should let the Democrats raise taxes on the top 2%. That is a popular policy and would be great for Dems.

The problem the Reps have is that their entire strategy was to win the election. There was no plan B. Failing plan A, they are boxed in. Either raise taxes for everyone or give Dems what they want.

Default Rand Paul: We Should Let Dems Raise Taxes And Then Let Them Own It

A better question is:

When will the GOP admit ownership of two failed wars and the worst economy in over 80 years?

In order for it to pass the House, republicans would have to vote for it too (and co-own it) or abdicate their responsibilities as elected representatives. Neither gets them off the hook.

I see it as win win for republicans. Vote present and if obamas plan works then they didnt stand in the way. If it doesnt work they can say they didnt want it but had no choice. This really is the only choice for the republican party. Republican voters know what way the train is going. Might as well get out of the way and let it race off the track. Anyone who thinks its "only" a tax on the 2% is delusional. Thats just a start.. Anyone who pays taxes at all will feel the pinch by the time this is done. Let obama have his plan inforced. Lets see the cuts deferred and the taxes go in effect imeditatly. Then those deferred cuts get deferred again... And again... While adding more stimulus... QE3,4,....10....

Sometimes you have to give the nieve what they want to get them to wake up and realize thats not what they really wanted.

The majority of voters who voted want Obama and his plans.
The Repubs need to realize that.

I don't think people voted him into congress just to vote "present" on #1 priority issue, especially when he admits he'd do it just to play games.

I would hope his voters can see the reality of the leaders screaming bloody murder about just 100 billion worth of cuts. I do not think his voters would be too excited about Rand just bending over and getting nothing in return. If there is not big time cuts why would Rand want to be known as a tax raiser?
