But isn't it the obligation of the government to provide cheap food, water and health-care EQUALLY and to ALL if the government has deemed them a human right?

Not any more than the obligation to provide cheap guns.

In our system the Gov't is charged with making sure that water and food is safe and in some areas supplies water which is safe to drink.

The right to cheap commodities does not always happen. Something about a free market system.

I don't know about rights and obligations --- but it would seem a civilized nation would want to ensure that all of its residents have at least sufficient food, water, shelter and healthcare to survive.

So you think government sponsored access to cheap guns is on the same level of obligatory human rights as access to cheap food and healthcare?

No, you think that a right can only exist if the government provides its cheaply. I simply took advantage of that amusing idea you presented.

Nope. I don't think that at all.

But most Americans feel that our rights are ordained by government not God.

That is what the whole health care battle was about.

Next year that will be the gay marriage and immigration reform battle as well.

Stay tuned.

These are usually the same nutcases who believe that God ordains rights.

Well, technically by opposition who believed that the government is infringing on their rights by regulating health care system.

Hopefully, that too will be settled so we can move on to things that actually matter.

Access to food and water is a right. Having food and water is not a right.

Do you think ratifying any treaty, with the Harry Reid senate will a problem Obama would need to overcome? Treaties have about the same authority as an amendment to the Constitution, and all we need is Obama and the senate to ratify them.
