Quote:
Andrews began to drive away while the deputy was standing between the open door and the driver's seat.
She threw it in reverse and tried to run over the deputy,' said Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Deputy Thomas Gilliland.
'He confronted the suspects at exit of the store before they left. One female wouldn't stop, struck the deputy with her purse, ran off.'
I think it knocked him off balance and, in fear of his life and being ran over, he discharged his weapon at that point.

Good..........

EDIT....

In before the "they should have tried more talking" crowd get here....

Gives you a whole new light on the door greeter doesn't it... Shooting a shoplifter is over the top, but the woman did break the law and she did steal. Because it is Wal Mart makes no difference than a mom and pop convenience store.. While the security guard was probably arrested and will go on trial, you can not escape the fact that if this woman had not shop lifted, she would be alive and well today..

I have a hard time envisioning a situation in which it would have been necessary to shoot into that car...

Shoplifting with your kids is nothing new.

Sad it ended that way. Usually ends up the mom goes to jail and the kid, depending on age, goes to Grandma, CPS, or juvie.

It's more prevalent in your inner city urban areas with the big box stores.

OP conveniently forgot to quote this part:

Quote:
Andrews began to drive away while the deputy was standing between the open door and the driver's seat.

'She threw it in reverse and tried to run over the deputy,' said Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Deputy Thomas Gilliland.

I hope the deputy wasn't injured. One less criminal in the world.

Hopefully the deceased criminal's accomplices are charged with felony murder. They committed multiple crimes that resulted in her death. First, the theft. Second, failure to stop when directed to do so by a LE officer. Third, feloneous escape (I believe is the charge). 4th, either attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon for trying to run over the cop. They created the situation in which their fellow criminal was killed...hopefully they do the time for it.
