Independent? The President is responsible for international relations and the Department of State is an executive department that supports that role. The Secretary of State is appointed not elected. Condi Rice did her job supporting Bush's policies - and lying for him.

I guess I'm going to have to watch the O'Reilly rerun to see if he uses the word 'insipid'.

I'll be mad if he doesn't.

Do you have any idea why it wasn't Hillary who did the talking that fateful Sunday morning? Why did they use a woman who was our ambassador to the UN when the Secretary of State would have been the likely one. I wonder if she refused to lie for them that morning.

You are wrong. The SoS is nominated. The Senate then approves or rejects via VOTE. The prez does not appoint SoS.

Hillary wasn't available for a round of Sunday morning talk shows - she was a little bit busy.

If you'd bothered to watch one of the many reruns of her news conference today where she withdrew her name, you'd know the answer to that question. I'd tell you ow but I seriously doubt you even care what the answer is...you've already decided not to believe it.

i simply googled it and got the first one, Does it really matter where it comes from when the site itself uses direct quotes from the chairman of the Congressional committee ????

um, yes that is what appointing is. the vote is not done by the people, but by elected officials. So yes, the President does APPOINT his NOMINEE, and the senate can CONFIRM them or not
