Disabled Workers Hit New Record in December: 8,827,795...what did you expect with Barracka Claus in charge...who needs to work anymore....We've become a nation of moochers....
More people are becoming disabled because it pays so very nicely -- and there are many more ways to be disabled today than in the past.
Have 2 arms and legs that work, an IQ over 70 but don't feel like working? Just claim you get headaches, are depressed and you can live off the taxpayers the rest of your days.
So rather than pushing to curb down on any fraud (if there is any? it's likely a demographic reason) these right wing "men" are starting threads bad mouthing Social Security. They are so brainwashed, they think, in general, other Americans workers are "moochers". (you can't collect SS benefits unless you worked much of your life) That's why they vote for a party that is pushing to have their Social Security benefits cut by 7% or more by linking cost of living raises to chained CPI. I couldn't look my kids in the face if I supported politicians who would cut Social Security benefits while the rich in this country thrive.
This is the amazing success of right wing propaganda. They've brainwashed white, middle aged to elderly, men that it's in their best interest to trash their families social safety net if it keeps a brown person from being able to collect on some government benefit. These poor dupes are willing to give up family's own self interest to stick it to another American.
I've got news for you fellow white guys. I live in one of the most affluent suburbs in the USA and it's obvious what is going on. So if you want a rat race, if you want survival of the fittest, you are going to lose by a landslide. There is only room at the top in your dog-eat-dog World for the smartest 2% and higher IQ Asians and Ashkenazi Jews are eating your lunch. So keep bad mouthing government ,and middle class benefits and you'll wind up on the losing end of the stick just like your wish for hispanics and blacks.

That is another major problem with Social Security -- you don't have to have had worked much at all in order to collect it -- 40 quarters which amounts to just 10 years. Many Americans work for 40 or 50 years before retiring but all that is required is 10 short years.
One way to save social security would be to require at least 40 years of working and paying into it before retiring and receiving a check. Or those who worked fewer than 40 years should be given a much lower social security check than someone who paid in 45 years.
This is what we in the UK did in the 80s. Officially, 'Unemployment' fell, but the number of disabled people went from a stable 500,000 in the 70s/80s to 3 million by the turn of the century, as industrial jobs simply disappeared, unemployment benefits are too low to live off, but disability benefits are comparitively generous, especially as you can claim your spouse/relative is your carer, and they can get full time wages for that.

On this side of the pond, disability benefits typically pay less than minimum wage. For those who don't already own a home, a bedsit is about all they can afford.
