Dawn Nguyen of Rochester, New York, faces charges over allegedly lying when she purchased an AR-15 rifle -- a .223-caliber weapon -- and 12-gauge shotgun that the gunman had with him during the attack.
Authorities say she told the gun dealer that she planned to be the owner of the weapons, but had instead purchased them on June 7, 2010,for gunman William Spengler.
How do you feel about the idea that it is "absolutely illegal to lie about the acquisition of firearms"? I'm on the fence.

I absolutely think she should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Illegal straw purchases like this are how guns end up in the hands of felons.
I agree that she should be charged and held accountable in accordance with the law. However, I don't know enough about the law to say I flat out agree with it. Say this man stole the firearms, either from a stranger or relative, how does this law take that into account?

Where did she break the law? Question #1A and at the bottom where she signed and stated all was up to date, correct and answered truthfully. This isn't your kids first grade report card. It's a FEDERAL document.

They were apparently given to him though. If someone steals it from you then you aren't going to be arrested for their actions.
This is actually another issue, some of the suggestions are the need for mandatory reporting of firearms being stolen but that has it's own problems too.
Also notice the last sentence down where you sign. It's very important to the folks who plan to purchase for the sole purpose of resale in a very short time.

That's already law. I would do it within 8 hours or less if it were me.
