Our so-called criminal justice system is often described as a "revolving door" system. The vast majority of violent crimes are committed by those that have already been arrested, served a minimal sentence (if any) and then turned back out on the street. The number of murder cases where the person had a violent, criminal past is disgusting. And in the vast majority of cases, violence escalates.

My suggestions involved mandatory minimum sentences, with no strikes.

Burglary or car theft-10 years
Armed robbery, car jacking or felony assault-30 years (might need to check terminology-a bar fight shouldn't get you 30 years)
Forcible Rape-life. The same for a false claim of rape.
Rape or molestation of children (again, not statory, when the age difference is minimal)-life.
Murder-life or death sentence

What say you? Violent criminals have no place outside of a cage.

A life sentence should be just that, a life sentence.

I'm amazed that here in the US we can have repeat violent offenders lurking among us, ready and waiting to attack again.

Hard to wrap my head around that.

Guess that's the price of progress.

We imprison way more people than any other country and do so for way longer periods of time. Yet we have the highest recidivism rates in the developed world.

I think the rehabilitative aspects of our penal system need to be GREATLY emphasized.

10 years for stealing a car sounds a little harsh, and it's not necessarily violent either

So much crime revolves back to drugs we need to take a serious look at decriminalizing it. The war on drugs is lost, end of story.

Get those people out of the prison system and make room for the people that need to be locked up longer.

Sounds a little steep to me unless it's repeat offender.

Agreed except for the death sentence. I can no longer support that. Too many people on death row that were innocent of the crime they were convicted of.

But unlike horses, the "vehicles" are mostly all insured.

Dumbasses in Texas put their horses in their vehicles.
