Garbage.

I have bc/bs health care and still find it cheaper to have medical check-ups, procedures, dental, etc. done in Thailand.
My dentist, GP, and all of my medical is done here, much cheaper.
I just got a crown for 8,000 baht; under $300 US.

The garbage about Obamacare is just that.
Rates haven't gone up as a result of care; it's in retaliation against.
Every year my premiums increase and have been doing so for decades with bc/bs. It's simply a matter of greed in a for-profit health environment.
In the US, insurance companies decide if you get treatment or not.

Here's my anecdote.
Broke my foot while I was in the US.
BC/BS paid $4. Yep, $4. I paid the rest.

Garbage? This is how you address the thoughts of others?

You are not citing any comprehensive data, just disjointed factoids for which you provide no substantiation.

Private medical care in Thailand is actually medical care for profit. Thailand health care incorporates both private and public sectors. Public sector care does not cover life saving procedures such as kidney transplants, due to the high cost.

When you get into analyzing the cost of medical care there are many aspects to consider. The cost of a one-off surgery through a private provider doesn't really tell us much. Comprehensive economic comparisons show us that "free medical care" isn't free at all.

Here is an interesting discussion in an ex-pat forum, in which the quality, cost, and availability of health care in Thailand is discussed, along with personal anecdotes. Lots of interesting information there which aids us in making accurate evaluations:

"That was at Bankok Hospital Pattaya Branch. My drug charge for that one prescription was about 240 $. Outside it was 24 $. That's not just 'more expensive' that's gouging. They told me my stay would be about 28,000. There were no complications. The bill was 80,000. I got in their faces for about 2 hours and they brought it down to 55,000."
Medical care in Thailand

As to the humanitarian aspect of overseas health care providers:

"many of these high-end hospitals are in countries where citizens struggle to get basic care."

It's interesting that you think the 3k isn't net of your countries taxpayer contribution via subsidy.

My healthcare provider is a non-profit and has been ranked the best plan in the nation 7 years running (Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare) and is probably far superior to any care you are receiving where ever it is you are.

You must think we are all a bunch of rubes on this board.

I met a guy from your country who had come here because all his teeth had fallen out due to lack of proper dental care.

Indeed they are. But then, it comes naturally to them, doing whatever it takes to serve their masters (anybody making six figure salaries or better and speaking their language would be it).

But, you created a thread on a subject that I might personally experience. I have a distant nephew who needs medical attention, and his insurance provider has refused to cover the costs. And the health care providers require a big down payment before they touch him. This person is in his teens, and his mom asked if we could reach to my contacts (doctors) in India, since I visited some facilities there two years ago. I got them in touch, and later this year, I might accompany him.

The Insurance Companies are laughing all the way to the bank at Obamacare. Think of it - millions of low risk in health American's are being FORCED to buy medical insurance. All subsidized by the American taxpayer.
