Union leader, hollywood actor, and gun control advocate. This man is beloved by so many people who despise unions, hollywood, and celebrities who get involved in politics.

Strange world

yes he was.

what we hate is what unions are doning NOW. What we detest is what we have seen SOME unions do for quite some time.

Not all unions are the same. Not all unions are disliked by those of us on the right who are interested in the politics of organized labor.

Unions were much more militant in the past than they are today. That is a fact.

So you dislike unions made up of teachers and auto makers, but are ok with unions made up of Hollywood actors? Seems rather snobby if you ask me.

I think many who worship St Reagan are too young to have voted for him.

Well that explains a lot. Probably too young to know his history.

Ronnie was a centrist and the GOP jumps through so many funny hoops to paint him as far right of such.

Reagan was a vocal advoate for balanced budgets. Yet he never, not once, submitted a balanced budget.

Reagan also significantly increased Payroll taxes during his 2 terms. He called them revenue enhancers and promptly deficit spent the incremental income. Bush 1, Clinton and finally Bush 2 did too till the well ran dry.

Conservatives trash Obama because he was a "community activist", yet Reagan was a labor union leader.

Nice collection of half truths. Reagan did sometimes back gun control, but the gun control debate then was not quite what it is now. Reagan, much like Jefferson re slavery, had a mixed record on gun rights. He spoke passionately for gun rights, but at times took positions that seemed to belie his rhetoric.

In 1933 as a young sports reporter, he actually used a gun to stop a mugging in progress.

Most of us on the right do not "despise unions." What we despise are abusive activites by unions, especially public sector unions. But the right generally still supports freedom of association. Invariably it is the left that does not.

Similarly most of us do not deny the right of celebrities to get involved in politics. It's just a lil more complicated than that. We don't like it when Hollywood-types speak out on politics and take advantage of their platform without having a clue what they're talking about, and without doing their homework. Ronald Reagan was a guy who did his homework. Rosie O'Donnell, Spike Lee, Kanye West, etc--not so much.

Haven't seen too many conservatives trash Victoria Jackson, is it because she does her homework?
