You're far more correct than you think. There certainly is a reason they died out, and we're it. But, it wasn't a matter of enslaving them. Seems we were not as enlightened when we first started out some 42,000 years ago.

Should be fairly obvious.

Neanderthal continues to exist as a part of the majority of modern humans, along with Cro-magnon.

I think modern Europeans have 2% of Neanderthal in them. I remember reading that somewhere from a science digest.

Evolution weeded out the Neanderthals for a reason. We are playing a very dangerous game when we start doing stuff like this.

With liberals, nothing surprises me.

I'm not saying we should or shouldn't clone a neanderthal, but there are some very serious ramifications here. First off, is the surrogate mom the legal guardian of the child? Is neanderthal immediately a ward of the state or the college? I mean, considering the immense amount of resources invested in creating a neo-neanderthal, the investors would need some kind of return, presumably in scientific research/knowledge, but what's the limit? A neanderthal is a human being, probably not even a separate species if interbreeding is possible. Human beings have intrinsic natural rights, which would seem to prevent an entire life-time of being studied and experimented on (without consent). Also, think of the developmental psychological issues such a child would endure. She'd never have a chance to live anything resembling a normal life. She would live her whole life feeling different from everybody else, and she'd be right. Could you put a neanderthal in school with other children? Are there any diseases or allergies that are different than for homo sapiens?

As something of a science geek, I would be absolutely fascinated by a modern living neanderthal, but as something of a humanitarian, I can't help but feel like we'd be creating something unnatural and ultimately something of a monster.
