Yes. I believe so. Even when some follow Christianity they don't necessarily do it from an aspect of faith, but because it is a habit/social custom or the norm for their culture. Many people go to church because they were brought up that way, but don't really believe, let alone practice.
What is one supposed to think in a society that continues to feel a need to pigeonhole others by aligning their affiliation with religion along with everything else? I've noted a decidedly different attitude in America ever since religion was hi jacked by the extremist elements in our society, could it be that we have had our own Taliban attempting to alter the political outcome? Liberal, Conservative, these are not religious terms they're political terms, and they should be viewed as separate things.
Sure but it's rare. If you became an atheist by using reason, and critical thinking skills those same traits would tend to keep you from becoming what's generally referred to as a American type "conservative". It's just plain as day there are real World examples of social democracies that provide ample government benefits for their citizens and are thriving compared to the US and other nations that don't.
For Example Pew Research found that only 6% of leading US scientists identified as Republican, whereas 55% identified with Dems.
Yes but most are fiscally conservative, moderate-liberal on social issues. They just sort of get drowned out by the far side.
