No. I said "with the GOP out of the picture." Didn't you read?

2010 was just two years ago. I think to put a party in the grave at this time is way to early in the game to say its over. There are still almost half that nation that is moderate Conservative to very Conservative. So to write them off at this point is to do so at the lefts own peril.

Some people call them neo-cons. I agree that they're the most dangerous element in the U.S. today, because their goal is not to benevolent, but mercenary.

It will also keep dying as long as it keeps letting the Tea Party get involved.

...and favors the scant plutocrats instead of ordinary Americans. The GOP plans call for no additional revenue and no cuts to defense, in order to balance the budget by 2023. That means that everything else must be savagely cut or it's mathematically impossible. So, the proposal is either mathematically impossible or politically impossible. Jonathan Chait column calls it: Boehner: Let’s Destroy Math Instead of the Economy

Quote:

John Boehner announced on Tuesday that he will proceed with a plan to suspend the federal debt ceiling, which is actually kind of a brilliant way to avoid crashing the world economy without voting for something that sounds like it increases the national debt. But, as part of his concessions to the looniest wing of the Republican party, he has also committed himself to passing a budget that would reach full balance within a decade.

Paul Ryan's budget, even while employing all sorts of fanciful [e.g. phony] projections, didn't balance the budget until 2040.Why? Because the parameters Republicans have picked for the budget make balancing the budget utterly impossible. Moving that timetable up by seventeen years changes the plausibility level from Level: Unicorn to Level: Unicorn Being Ridden By Santa Claus Who Has Lost 50 Pounds Through One Weird Trick. (That's why Santa's riding a unicorn now — otherwise, he'd be far too corpulent.)
...
So we're looking at close to a 90 percent spending cut on programs for the poor and sick. I suppose Paul Ryan could spin this as a super-compassionate plan to help starving children and people with awful diseases learn to stop being moochers and take care of themselves.
...
So, instead of increasing taxes in a way that mimics times when the federal government had the money it needed, without harming economic growth, the GOP has to propose insane ideas just to get their most right-wing members on board. That's the GOP's main Achilles heel.

Anyone else feeling this?
You better hope that doesn't ever happen. Checks and balances are what keep dictators from running roughshod over a country.

And no, the GOP isn't going to die any time soon. Unless you get rid of conservatives across the country, there will be a GOP.

The country didn't fall apart when the Whigs disappeared. The electoral system favors a two-party system. If the GOP doesn't adapt and become moderate party again, another party will come to prominence.

Perhaps the Democratic Party will be the new moderate party and the Green Party will position itself slightly to the left of the Democrats.

The GOP may not disappear -- they'll just not win elections if they cling to ultra-conservative ideas, like disbanding Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. As the population ages, those ideas are downright scary to seniors. Most of Medicaid pays for senior care, many in nursing homes.

There is a place for conservatives ideas, there just isn't room for the crazy right-wing ideas.

If the GOP collapses, who will replace them?

The Teabaggers are so ignorant it's scary. And the GOP is now stuck with that bunch of nuts. You gotta love it.
